its weird one minute im doing somthing on my computer then the screen freezes turns black and it dosent change but the tower is still working what wrong

That could be a issue made by your screen itself. I had that once with a old one of mine, something inside got broken for a reason I will never know.

It could be several different things, how do you know the tower was actually working and not just running?

I agree with Chii, try anuther moniter, if that doesnt work, check your video card.
