I don't think that thread was ever really used much, but I can't quite remember it at the moment.

I don't even know what I'd prefer from a RP here. Personally I'm not much for the adventure type ones, as Bon Bon isn't the kind of place for such IMO. My fursona isn't designed to be part of such a story either, as she doesn't have any weapons or trainign in any forms of combat.

But then what else is there to do? Roleplay sex scenes? I'm not sure that's something I'd like to do.
Roleplay people just walking around the town and talking to each other? I'm afraid I'm having a bit trouble imagining how that couldn't easily be slightly boring.

That's of course not to say that these types of RPs wouldn't work. These are just my initial thoughts based on not having been part of such RP yet.

Eh, I'm a little wary about people with high 'standards'. Went into a MUD once, and every cursed thing you typed in was supposed to be a one paragraph minimum soliloquy and description of dramatic and atmospheric poses and nuances of facial movement and accent. God forbid two or three people ever wanted to just RP a normal back and forth conversation with only a sentence or two of dialogue.

Irritating, that. Watching was like several William Shatner's taking turns performing their favorite dramatic schticks at each other over and over again because they'd ran out new ones long ago. Razz

Oh, I'm not that bad. I just meant that some of the roleplaying I've seen here is, for want of a better word, diabolical. I don't want to name names, though.

"Diabolical"? That's sort of a weird way to describe a role-playing thread... *imagines a block of text suddenly transforming into a sentient form, wearing a top hat and cape while rubbing its hands together*

One of the definitions of diabolical - expressive of cruelty or befitting hell. Some of the roleplaying here belongs in hell, so I stand by my wording. Laughing

I'm not trying to sound offensive here, but are you trying to say that some rp here is not worth reading or joining in?

Well, sort of. There are some that I've started reading, then either got bored or irked (mostly the latter), and couldn't be bothered to carry on with it. Especially when there are several pages of twaddle to catch up on in one go. I don't want to sound like an RP Nazi or something, but there are some things that just get my goat.

No, I understand.

That happens to me, too. Some are really good that you want that rp threads to continue on and there some sort of good one, but get a little boring later on.

I've been in this situation myself. It's made even worse when the people demanding such long poses are slow typists. I literally did a roleplay once where it was more then 20 minutes between my poses. It's kind of hard to do spontaneous scenes in that situation.

I like to adjust my length to the situation. Sometimes short, sometimes longer, it depends on the pace of the scene and what's actually going on. It doesn't take five lines of text to agree with someone. Wink

A PBM roleplay like what's going on here is a little different than a live one, it benefits everyone to write a little more detail, but nobody is waiting for you in an immediate fashion, so you have time to.

Yeah, I've done roleplays like that before. It was meant to be in real-time, but I felt sometimes like there was at least a five-minute delay between me and everyone else. Laughing I'd get about five lines of text done (in reaction to their actions) within about a minute, quite often. Then have to wait ages for a reply. It's annoying. Here, though, it's different; you expect to have to wait.

I agree, the length depends on the situation. For example, in the game where I invented Tadelesh, there were pre-defined emotions as well as being able to create more in-depth ones on the spot; oftentimes, I would just use a pre-defined one, because, for instance, if all I wanted to do was just nod in agreement to a statement, I felt there's no point typing in "emote nods in agreement" (though I could elaborate on it) when I could just type "agree" and the system would do it for me. Laughing

The more talking about roleplaying the more interested I get. I wouldn't want to just jump straight into one in progress though, and I'd honestly not be sure of exactly what I'd want from a RP here.

I don't know if I have the wrong impression, but are the sex ones beginning to dominate the RP scene here? I recall several others, but it seems like most of them aren't being posted in all that much anymore. Okay, I just took a closer look, and I can see that there are several other RPs on the first page of the forum, so I had the wrong impression after all. Confused

Well, unless your really "feeling it," you can't just jump into one. Its easier to start up something and see how others react.

Then you have to figure out what the scene and scenario are. Something along the lines of a more intimate setting works if only a few are in the RP, but if you have everyone in the forum dropping by, it can cause waves, put distance between the two who were trying to interact, change the whole scenario, or you can even pass over an important entry, like I did with Ashton's.

Its difficult and sometimes unsettling, but if you manage to pull through a good RP, its all worth it.

Well, you have to think to yourself Symphony, why/what am I role playing?

For one, most RPing that I'd imagine here would revolve around sex. And though I've dabbled in those kinds of RPs, I'm not around much to provide any of you with such entertainment. That, and I find a simple enjoyment from simply getting a hug or a playful scuffle with the members around here, who seem more intellectual then physical.

That and the lack of female participants who aren't focused on females is down, and not many, if any, are willing to double/triple up for the many men who would participate, so its kind of a lost cause for some of the guys. ^^;

That's the point right there, Labrn. I really don't know what I'd like to roleplay. Like you, I tend to think that stories set in Bon Bon would revolved mostly around sex. I'm just having some trouble imagining other types of roleplay, that would quickly get a little boring.

One possibility is to RP a story, like a mystery or something, where each of the participating members contributes to the story as it's written. *shrug*

That's sort of how the "New Scent in Town" RP started by toonaxe has become... there's been a few twists and turns in the plot, that I've found it a fairly enjoyable RP (even if it's been very, very light on the sex).

On a different note, I'd like to add one more bit of roleplay etiquette: jumping into a roleplay story (especially ones that are at least a couple pages ahead of your introduction) requires a bit of creative maneuvering. Simply jumping in the middle of the action, without explaining how your character showed up there, can be a bit jarring for everyone else who has been taking time to build upon the plot. Some scenarios are easy (a bar, tavern, or other public place where one could simply walk in on their own buisiness), while others require much more forethought (inside the villain's hideout, a secluded section of woods, or somebody's bedchambers).

Another thing to remember is to always, always, always add descriptive imagery of your character when you first enter a roleplay thread. Not everyone is automatically familiar with who or what your fursona is, so it would be nice to know if a tall, black cat in an elegant suit just walked in the door, or a squat, pink naked mole-rat in a dirty miner's outfit. Without adding some hints of your species, appearance, or even gender, you can't expect any of the others involved in roleplay to give you much notice.

That's something I'd forgotten about. When I've roleplayed before, I never had to include that. The main source of my RPing experience was the game where I created Tadelesh, and in there, you had your description that anyone could see by typing "LOOK (or EXAMINE, or EX for short) <name>", so I'm not used to having to describe myself in an RP.

That's what I've done back in the day as well.. sometimes we'd coordinate outside of the story for some plot ideas, other times it went absolutely wild. It's good to have a creative group of people to keep the new situations coming in. Smile

Have finally got into a live muck-based RP again that tickles my enjoyment of cross-overs, Lion King and Dr Who Wink

Personaly I was thinking about starting an RP topic called, "Out of the Battle Field, and Into the Suana."

Basicly for my first RP on this forum. i was thinking of playing my charicter as a fish out of water, and comeing to town becuase it was recomened to him after he was sent back to the country due to a left shoulder injury in the battle front. At least, that is what i have in mind so far.

Well, the only thing I'd be RPing of late would be a poker tournament with all the fine gentlemen here. It goes along with a story I made mention to in another thread.

What's in it for the winner(s) of the tournament? I'm not telling just yet..
