yeah.....i don't know if anyone has thought of this yet, but it seems that there is a slight problem with threads piling up for those who can't read them every day......me for one....and it make it difficult to get in and join the thread for a disscusion.

what i thought this could do was to help those of us every two dayers.....no i'm not sure that is a word so don't ask......by seeing if people wouldn't like to put down some basic summaries of the popular threads and their disscussions.

That could prove problematic to everyone, I think.

I wonder, if the option of simply reading through the thread is unfeasible, if perhaps simply asking for a quick update and hoping somebody obliges is a more polite way to approach things.

That's... really expecting a lot, guys. Most of use barely have enough time to read through all the threads, let alone summarize them. Just do what I do... quickly scan the last pages of the threads, and if it's nothing that seems important or pressing, then skip it. You don't need to read through every single sentence of every single thread... most of them have devolved into nothing that resembles their original topics anyway.

Aye, this makes a lot more sense. And to quote your last sentence there, Help Wanted comes to mind very quickly. Razz

Well, I think it's no secret that "Help Wanted" was probably created with its present "actions" in mind... toonaxe wasn't exactly shy about her desire to "play" with other female characters in here.

Perhaps if there were two seperate PBB forums, one for comics and art discussion only (like the present forum is supposed to be, technically), and one for role-playing threads. That might make things easier to handle for folks who don't spend all day everyday in here...

I like that idea, too, but even Mr. Ronald do something like that, there are people who might make a mistake to put their rp threads into the c/a discussion.

I have no idea what the heck you're talking about, Henk, but if you could leave your masochistic fantasies out of the discussion for a moment, I'd like to avoid falling off topic for once. blink

As far as folks occasionally posting things in the wrong forums, it'll happen, no matter how many subcategories you put in the forums. Still, it shouldn't be that hard for an admin to move threads where they belong (although Ronald can correct me if I'm wrong about that assumption).

I don't think there's a problem with the RP threads. There only seems to be about five of them on the front page at any given moment. That's not enough to warrant a subforum, I think.

I can understand how it can be a lot to read through for those who only stop by occasionaly, but that's hardly due to the RP threads. Besides, you can easily ignore the RP threads. I personally find that the most posts being made here are just random off topic comments. Some threads have really turned into small chat threads, which have nothing to do with the comic or the original topic of them. Those are the ones I find take up the most time to go through, especially when it happens in threads I'm interested in.

Are we talking about breaking things down into categories or just heavier moderation?

I've seen forums where the really off-topic, random and silly stuff was kept to just one section to keep it from way-laying more specific topics.

Sumthin' like that?

That might work. I really don't know, and I'd also like to add that I'm not opposed to off topic posts as such. I think they can be good and necessary to help create a community feeling, but I also think it can become too much. When the original topic is ignored and the off topic posts turn into their own topic/conversation, that's when it becomes a bit too much for me. With some threads, I'll add. There are threads where it isn't such a big deal.

And I don't mean to start blaming anyone specific here. I've posted off topic comments as well, and sometimes I haven't even realized it until later on.

I take my fair share of the blame. Forums can be alot like RL conversation. They can go anywhere.

If we do have to divide and moderate, I'll go along.

If it keeps people from throwing their hands up in dismay.

I think that self-moderating would be a better idea than to give more work to Ronald.

and for saphron, I'd suggest looking over the first two or three pages of the forum. I'd generally say that people should read the first post of every thread before they reply, but many of the threads here have strayed away from the original topic, and away from anything PBB related as well.
It really depends on what you'd like to read here.

^^ well i'm glad it got your attention, but i wasn't talking about just rp threads. there are several comic and site disscusions i was keeping up with moderately well for a while until they started going off topic and jumping up a page or two each day. i just thought it would help if maybe there was a way to help describe breifly what was happening in the threads so as to try to make it easier to keep up with, not neccesarily just to post anything.

Do you mean what is going on off-topicly in the threads you used to keep up with, or what is going on in new threads that have started since your last visit? Because I'm not sure if you want to keep up with what's going on that's furry and site related, or just what's generally going on. The former is much easier to give accurate summaries of than the latter.

I think your all crazy. I enjoy some of the things that come up when we get off topic. Its when we have two or more of our more active members who add about 3 pages of back and forth dialogue of RPing or that have nothing to do with anything that upset me.

Not to mention that we have to have threads made! It seems that no one bothers to look at page 2 if the main page gets full. Some threads just get high-jacked instead of a new thread made. So just politely ask them to get back on track or to make a new thread is all. Like I did with Kiala and Henk.

This is a hopelessly impractical idea, for better or worse. Personally, I just keep my attention focused on a small number threads, ignoring most of them. Only way I stay sane... Razz

Yes, that's what irks me more than anything, too.

I always look at page 2 if the main page is full, just to make sure I haven't missed anything. Smile

No wonder we've missed you in some key discussions then. There was a thread that is now lost, where Toonaxe and I were going to have a marine battle over your bosoms. Oh well.

Me, I just look for the little "new post" indicators that flash when you sign on, and then open a new tab for each one. If you try to answer just one at a time, the next time you go to the main page, the indicators go away, so I keep one window open with the main page with indicators, and then go one by one through the ones I care to reply to.

I tend to skip all RP threads on here. Sorry folks.

*sigh* i was talking about a general upate on what is in discussion at the time. not on the original thread. that would be way to confusing. but i understand where you all got the thought from. i too like the misdirected thoughts spoken on these threads, i was just saying that instead of reading through like two pages of new posts, i thought it would be easier to have a quick update posted on it somewhere.

And we're saying that's a very, very impractical idea, because it basically requires someone taking the time to read through every single new post, usually including jumping back a page or two in a thread to read old posts just to figure out what the heck the new posts are talking about. Plus, it's likely that by the time someone's done all that work and posted an update, several more theads would suddenly get new posts that suddenly change topics (seriously, all it takes is one person making a comment, and a whole train of conversation gets derailed).

Most of us simply don't have the time or patience for that. And frankly, not all of the currently active threads are all that interesting... sorry.

Not forgetting the fact that whoever posted about what's going on in a thread would likely have trouble deciding what was important to include and what wasn't.

You know what would be a good idea (although I am now beginning to doubt it's a good idea as I am typing this) if the owner of the threads could ask Mr. Ronald if he can delete his/her threads if he/she does not want to be there anymore.

I mean this forums have a lot of old threads that people does not go back to that threads anymore.

On a second thought, never mind, there are old threads it worth a person to want to bring it back and continue on the conversation base on that thread's topic.

Edit: Ok, Now I know it is not a good idea. I have just wasted a post. ^^!

What are you talking about Johnny? Don't you recall Ashton summarizing the forums events before? He did so for the comic as well to help catch those up who haven't been on in awhile.
