Mystic, it's nice to be remembered! Be certain that I think of all of you quite often.
I'm home at last from my extended trip, with no immediate plans for the next one, so can hopefully participate more.
Kommy: I wish you all the luck in your search, it sucks to lose your job and too many people are doing so right now. :/
Teachers are being hard hit all over, too... I know a friend of mine in California finds out next month whether she's losing her job. Having to wait to find out has got to be at least as bad as just being told. _________________ http://harmlesslion.com |

At least if you're waiting to find out, you can start to prepare for it, in case it happens. That's how I see it, anyway. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

O.O
*hug* FRIEND!!!!!
But in all seriousness, Kommy, I SO feel you on that one. I myself got laid off from my QA position last April, and the ONLY thing I've found so far was a couple of seasonal gigs to keep me going. Even the places that are, in fact, hiring have so many applications coming in, that the chances of getting in are slim. The economy sucks right now.:S

Teachers, banks, and a lot more. You name it, it's probably laying people off. I'm in Southern California myself, and every day I see some new business closing up shop. Even Disneyland had a hiring freeze recently, and both my siblings who work there have been getting little to no scheduled hours. _________________ http://www.furaffinity.net/user/vergil - Home of Vergil's ranting and of would-be fantasy epic, Insontis Somnium. Thank you for your concern. I hope I can manage, as finding jobs is neither my strong suit nor is it that easy to find a job for a non-PhD holding researcher. I hope things improve in the future and that the people I call on actually call me back for once in my life. _________________ "Doktor! Are you sure this will work?!" "HAHA! I HAVE NO IDEA!" |

Things will improve Kommy, of that I can assure you. Until they do, we are always here for you, if you need us. _________________ I like old jokes. With them I know when to laugh. |

Kismet can be kind as well as cruel. When an opportunity arrives, jump on and hold it with both hands... er... paws. _________________ "One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster.

Its times like these that I wonder if employers actually dread hiring anyone with higher learning. That they fear "Well, they're highly educated, so they'll want more than anyone else" and so they send you that "We're sorry, your over-qualified."
Big flipin' deal! I need the work! Same thing goes with our veterans and men in uniform. Sure, people say they want to hire military trained people due to their higher levels of respect and professionalism, but Labrn told me he got a bunch of those "overqualified" letters just because he was a veteran.
Personally, when your out of a job, I could give a damn how much I should be making. I'll be happy to make something before I start worrying if I'm making the most with my education and experience. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself

Well, I can't be classed as overqualified for anything, really, so I don't know how that feels, but that's just utter BS. If someone's overqualified, surely you should want them there, to show everyone else how it should be done?
By the way, Mystic, you keep using "your" when you should be using "you're". _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

Not necessarily, especially in the current climate. "Um this person is clearly overqualified for this job. What if they are really after MY job! Just using this to get in to the firm.Even if they're not, my Boss may notice them and promote them to it or worst over me."
Belive me that does go on a lot, _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

Exactly! Tearlach's got it right.

Ah. I'm glad, then, that in my line of work, I have just about the right amount of qualifications and experience. I feel slightly guilty for looking for a job when I already have one when others don't even have one.
Don't worry about it, sugar. It's just one of those things. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

Well, its the smart way to play Tadelesh.
Besides, if you leave your current job once you have the new job, your providing an opening for someone to have a job. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself

True. I just need a job with better pay. I'm only working part-time, and since I joined, they lost a full-time person and hired a new one (who has no experience in this field), and refuse to make me full-time. Go figure. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

I try to avoid the accusation of nepotism (the new guy is the son of a member of senior management), though there is a possibility it's true. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |
