I just recently learned of a band called "The Flaming Lips"...

My favorite song so far is
"Yoshmi Battles The Pink Robots Pt.1" And "Fight Test"

They've got the full version of their Album available for online play at:

http://www.flaminglips.com/

Specifically:
http://www.wbr.com/player/flaminglips/lips_player.html

What's everybody else listening to?

Right now, I've got "Gravity" from Our Lady Peace in my discman. Other recent purchases include Everclear's new greatest hits album and WWE Originals (also can't wait for ThemeAddict next week; god I'm such a mark).

Nothing new right now. Just recycling the collection. Also can't wait for Themeaddict next week, even though I can't afford it. And "Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi" by Puffy Amiyumi.

A friends suggested me the Nightwish, a very talented band. They play celtic/gothic music, they are really very good musicians and singers. I don't listen usually to this sort of music but I must admit they rule!
Their site: http://www.nightwish.com/

I also like very much a band (no more a band, seems they disassembled..) called Tabache, celtic music.

I am a punk/rock fan, my fav bands are Bad Religion, Offspring and such. I also like Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Fantomas and listen to soundtracks from movies and anime, also videogames. I love to listen all the Final Fantasy soundtracks for example, all the Cowboy Bebop cds, Noir, Escafolwne...

Various stuff ^-^

Hi Serena and everybody!

Yep, Nightwish are pretty cool, by the way, they are from Finland!
A lot of great Gothic/Celtic/Metal-Bands come from Scandinavia!

Nightwish are also very popular here in Germany, they even performed
at Top of the Pops (originally an UK-Show I think?!) which was pretty strange! Laughing
Their Keyboarder writes all the songs and their Singer Tarja has joined
a classical vocal-education! And she´s pretty good-looking also... Wink

They became comercially successful here after Evanescence from the US
started to become famous! (although Nightwish exist longer!)

Another quite similar band is Within Temptation from the Netherlands,
Gothic-Rock-Metal with a lot of classical influence!
But the female voices are a matter of taste I think!

And yes, Faith no more really ruled in times they existed (R.I.P)! Crying or Very sad
They had a very unique style and have influenced many so-called Crossover-Bands!

I personnally listen to mainly handmade music from Rock to Metal
in most of all styles, the latest records from Lenny Kravitz, REM,
Opeth (great Swedish Band!) and Samael (some kind of Electro/Industrial-Metal with oriental influences, a band from Switzerland!!! Shocked ) are cool!
Further I also like Depeche Mode and U2 (not everything, but the most!)
when it comes to more "popular" music!

So far!
Mirko

Interesting music....

Can't say I've heard much of these other bans you guys speak of.

I have found the Gypsy Kings to be really great to listen to- even tho I can't understand a word they're saying. Got 2 of their Albums.

Depeche Mode and U2 ROCKS!! Smile

I usually play Depeche Mode and New Order when the girls are here shooting.

Well you all got me ... I never heard of these bands (well, not true, I heard of Depeche Mode and U2, of course) ...

As for me, I'm more into classic rock ... Like the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac (and even the real oldies from the 50's and 60's !!). Elton John has a new CD out, Peachtree Road - It's one of his best in many, many years, I think. Hey, all these guys were hot in my youth, so I grew up with them, what can I say? Laughing

Rich

I even like Raggae ... UB40 are fantastic! (again, oldies!).

UB40. Great Group. Favorite songs are:
"The Way You Do The Things You Do" and "Can't Help Falling In Love"
and the one they did with the Pretenders - "I Got You Babe". Always reminds me of Ground Hog Day listening to that song. (Of course the ground hog day version is with Cher)

Elton John has some good ones. Fleetwood Mac- I love! Got their greatest hits CD. LOTS of great songs on that. "Little Lies", "Rhiannon", "Say You Love Me", "Go Your Own Way", list goes on.

Hmm. we have somethings in common Rich. Smile

Depeche Mode was the first band I saw live in concert with a girl I actually digged alot. And some good friends. Getting tix was exciting.

Wait- Come to think of it. The JudyBats were the first Band I saw in concert.

Well, the songs used to sound really cheesy, which anyone who got "Anthology" would know. Lately, they're sounding more and more like normal songs. And the "Originals" album rocked. Best songs on there are Lita's, Lilian Garcia's and John Cena's. Could've done without Rikishi's though.

You mean to tell me you didn't like Chris Jericho's song on Originals? Blasphemy!

Seriously, the WWE does seem to be more and more focused on licensing and promoting music. Example: Take a look at the exclusive songs found on the Day of Reckoning and Smackdown Vs. Raw games.

The problem with Jericho's singing is he sounds like he does singing as he does when he's speaking. If he didn't scream as part of his microphone act, I might like his singing better. Not a bad song truthfully, but the other three were better. Haven't picked up the new games yet, though they are on my Christmas list. Very Happy

How may I ask did you stumble upon The Flaming Lips? I spoke with Jesse about them a few weeks ago. Have you heard the song "Do You Realize?"

Ah..heh. AveryAdams came over and was listening to it on my other computer- kept playing it on the website over and over.... Somehow the songs started clicking in my head..... "Evil Robots eat me... "

So I asked what is that song about evil robots....
She said it was FlamingLips: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt.1

I'm liking the "Fight Test" song now... "Do you realize" is cool too.

Anyways- that's how i learned of The Flaming Lips.

Rich, ya gotta get listening to some new stuff, there's loads out there that I'm sure you'll like, UK music is quite retro at the mo, so you should find some goo stuff easily.

Anyone got any suggestions for Rich?
