Ouch, glad to hear that you're feeling better. I'm not a doctor, but if it's "white-hot liquid death pouring out of both ends" that lasts all day, then it sounds like your first guess was probably right. Food poisoning is usually a little more forgiving than that. |

Here's hoping that we're just getting all these injuries and ailments out of the way for the new year, else the Doom Sayers are going to have a field day with all this. _________________ The suspense is killing me. I hope it will last. |

I've been trying to resist asking this but I just can't help myself anymore. What the hell were you two drinking during the holidays that got you in such bad shape?! Having finally gotten that out of my system, I wish you both a speedy recovery. Oh, and Johnny, I know what you mean about feeling like death in that situation. I remember well enough my last experience with food poisoning to say that, given the choice between a broken bone or three and being that sick, I'll take the broken bones any day. _________________ Silentium est aurum |

Thanks, and a bit of irony there; I don't drink.
And, while the given pain-killers are a God-send, I'm ambidextrous, which is generally why I'm the one who works as brakeman in the first place. It does take a little more effort and time to type now, since I'm typing with one hand, and the cast on my arm makes every movement extremely awkward, but, other than that, not too bad.
Did I mention the pain-killers? |

That reminds me of a (sort of) joke: I don't drink, I don't smoke and I don't swear. Oh s***, I left my fags in the pub. (Bear in mind that here in England, fag means cigarette.)
Personally, though, I rarely swear (often replacing the s and f words with sugar and fudge), I could never smoke as I really can't stand the smell of smoke, and I only drink occassionally. Tade drinks more than me, though. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

I don't smoke because I like to breath clearly, and could be considered a bit obsessive about keeping my airways unblocked.
Drinking, my stories sound more ridiculous than they really are. I don't really drink that much at all. Only one special occasions, but we make it count when I do drink I guess. *shrugs*
Fornicate, well, I'm not as clean as some of our other members here.
Swearing, I can swear. I can choose not to if I'm with company who prefer not to hear such language, such as visiting my parents or a friends parents. _________________ The suspense is killing me. I hope it will last. |

I don't smoke cuz it's expensive and the stigma against smokers is outrageous.
I've started drinking Boston Lager, although I probably shouldn't, since me old man was a drunk.
I don't fornicate anywhere NEAR as much as I would like too, but it keeps the number of loudmouth, ignorant children in my neighborhood down I suppose.
Swearing... well... my hero is the late George Carlin. You do the math. _________________ "One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster.

I'm what they call a "combat smoker" I only smoke under extremely stressful situations... though admittedly i will probably end up a full blown smoker eventually... don't drink at all, rather not discuss why... as for fornication... not as much as you would expect considering my profession... and swearing, well i can cuss fluently in five different languages and have used them all when pissed or injured, but i can cut it off and not swear at all when i'm around my family |

I used to smoke but I quit because my home state passed a smoking ban in any public place to include bars, pubs, tavern, or any other name you give your local watering hole and I refuse to stand outside in the winter where the thermometer dips to -20 degrees F. I do drink, but tend to stay away form the hard liquor due to the fact that I get a vicious hangover that makes me wish I was dead, seriously. As for fornication, not as much as I'd like it to be . Swearing? You should see me when I watch sporting events, especially when I drink . People tend to migrate away from me then . _________________ "If it ain't broke, just wait awhile. Sounds like the typical military man to me. I've been around some army types, and even sweet gentlemen turn to swearing their heads off in the military it seems. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself

Usually happens in the basic (boot camp) training months due to the drill sgts (instructors) screaming every obcenity under the sun. _________________ "If it ain't broke, just wait awhile. Because it will be. |

*Giggles* Yes, I recall hearing the boot camp stories from Labrn. The greatest was that they'd egg each other on too.
"You hear that? He says fuck you, your not my drill sgt." is what one of his would say anytime a soldier couldn't do what was asked of him, like finishing a pushup or something. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself

All this military talk made me remember one of my dad's favorite military jokes. Hope you enjoy it.
Each of the four branches of the armed forces, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force, are told to secure a building. The Army goes in, sets up barbed wire, guard towers, search lights, machine gun nests, digs trenches and bunkers, places land mines and dog patrols. Building is secure. The Marines go in, shoot everything that moves, shoot everything that doesn't move, set the building on fire then blow it up. Building is secure. The Navy goes in and turns off the lights and the coffee pots. Building is secure. The Air Force goes and leases the building for six months. Building is secure. _________________ I like old jokes. The military will always have its competitions, its jokes, and its honor.
As much as there are jokes and such, you still can't deny the patriotism, (or mercantilism for those who join just for the money) you find for those who join.
Some of the drill sgts aren't as threatening or skilled as the rest, but there's always bound to be at least one poster child Drill Sgt. I recall the Drill sgt who was nominated the top sgt for the year. Bear of a man, standing 6'5" and as wide as an NFL lineman.
On our graduation practice, he stood before us all on the stage, reciting his Drill Sergeant creed, while two other drill sergeants were mocking and making faces at him, trying to throw off his concentration. Not only did he do with flying colors and not get distracted, but he picked one up by the neck with one hand when he finished. XD _________________ The suspense is killing me. I hope it will last. |

I think it was supposed to be that the Army was paranoid, the Maries were "over enthusiastic", the Navy was lazy and the Air Force has too much money. Then again, my dad was a Navy guy, so... *shrug* _________________ I like old jokes. With them I know when to laugh. |
