Earlier today I was reading the sticky about the custom avatar generation. I think that I understand how it works and all, but I was surprised when Ronald said that there were hundreds or thousands of people on PBB, but of course not all of them post. As a result, an avatar can't be made for everybody.

I understand the reasoning behind that, but to me, this implies that there are long-term subscribers that don't RP on the site. Is this really true?

I was just curious because, to be honest, I can't RP at all. I even played D&D years ago and I was so terrible at it that I gave up. It's very ironic since one of my friends is such a D&D roleplay prodigy that he and his friends frequently invent their own countries (with histories behind them), have characters with extensive background stories and lineage, and craft their own custom magic spells. It's a little overwhelming when you hear them discuss a totally imaginary world with as much seriousness as a Sunday School sermon.

As for why I'm here, well, I'm actually a comic book fan. While anthropomorphic animals are as old as art itself, I learned specifically about the adult furry concept back with Omaha The Cat Dancer. (Ironically, Worley hated to call his work "furry" and insisted on the term "funny animals"). Regardless of whether you're a furry fan or not, nobody can deny that Omaha was brilliant and great. The comic had frequent sex in it, but only the most ignorant had the nerve to call it pornography.

Recently I began to like mature comics done by women. I don't necessarily mean only "NC-17" material, but comics with serious themes. Many of those comics are bold and have stories that few mainstream artists/writers can match.

That being said, Vanessa Santato is a one of a kind. I've never seen any artist put in almost as much work into the backgrounds as the main characters. All of the artwork is clean and detailed, and it's impressive. The stories are also good enough that I actually care about it and I start to empathize with the characters. I hope she doesn't give up PBB anytime soon because she's got a rare talent.

Even some of the people that have custom avatars don't rp. They do for the most part get into character but as far as a true rp no.

Some people like you said don't like it or are no good at it. but hey who am i to complain. if there are some people that just want to watch let them.

i just started to RP so its kind of hard to get in the swing of things and i can see how many people don't want or just are scared to try and join in on one because they think that no one would like what want in the RP, or start there own because they think no one would join it because they think that people would think its stupid (personally i don't think any RP can be stupid unless the person trys to make it that way).

but most people me included like to read whats going on in the RP's that are out there and picture whats going on in there head and try to give life to whats going on and find out how the story will progress. it kind of gives us something to look forward to in these kind of forums

The forum didn't start out as a role-playing forum, and it's really only fairly recent that whole threads devoted to an ongoing RP storyline have been popping up. That being said, most of us who have been here a while tend to prefer talking about the comic, the setting (espeically it's historical aspects), and of course Vanessa's artwork. A few of us are artists, and others are writers, and quite often you'll see some artwork or fanfiction created by one of us pop up every now and then.

But, like I said before, RP threads are only a recent fixture on the forum. I enjoy RP, but I definitely don't do it as much as many folks (I'm really only involved in one thread currently). And yes, there are a fair share of Royal Members with avatars that don't RP.

but you cant disagree that RP's are a good source of inspiration.

i like to go to different forums and check out the RPs at them(if any) and try to get some inspiration on what to write about i have a lot of stories that I'm currently working on right now and i have to say that pbb has given me a lot of inspiration on where to go with them

Yeah, I can't keep up. I tried to join one of the RPs, but my timing wrt the story was poor, RL overtook me, and for the most part it was overlooked. I haven't had time to try again.

Generally I do enjoy roleplay, life just has other plans.

Though I was once an avid RPer, I don't as often now, due to time restraints and my lack of constant attendance here.

However, that doesn't keep me from enjoying a bit of slapstick, an offer of a kiss to the hand or cheek of a fair lady, and such other little things. ^_^

While I have been with the site since the beginning or close to it I haven't taken part of any RP's on here sadly mainly because I don't have the time to take part in any. :/ Also my RP skills quite frankly are not that good.

Having been left alone with my imagination for far too many years, I'm not as goode at RPing as I once was. Well, sort of; I'm still as GOODE, I just don't have the patience (or time) for it like I used to in high school. I still RP every now and again, but it's usually in the faster mediums, a la MSN or Second Life. Besides that, I prefer to MAKE stories nowadays, as opposed to simply being in one.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just jaded 'cause I've never been in an RP that had a decisive conclusion. Or even got close to one. XP

I also hang out mainly on Second Life though on there my fursona is not a Fox but a four winged Ice Phoenix. I just chose to be a Fox in Bonbon because it's my second most favorite species and also Vanessa said awhile back she didn't want to use too many mythical species in the story.

I used to role-play on message boards, but there came a point where I simply lost track of things. I come here for the enjoyment.

Someday I might again. I just had a person from FA who very much ruined the experience for me. I understand some folks can't come up with original characters of their own. That's fine, there are plenty out there willing to help, but this guy rips people's off, and doesn't bother to give any credit to the original creator.

He also doesn't listen to reason either. He'd only play by his rules, and would constantly break any limits you set for your character. Example, Ashton, he'd have your character in the middle of an orgy, which we all know is not something your character would jump right into.

Well, maybe not "jump" right into, but let's say, hypothetically, he were offered a gig from a strange benefactor who wanted him to play behind a curtain... strange, but perhaps not totally unreasonable... until Ashton gets part way through his set and recognizes sounds not of your normal "party atmosphere" coming from the other side of the curtain. He curiously peeks through the thin cloth barrier and BOOM! he's in orgy central.

Not sticking up for your bad RPing "friend" there, Labrn, just saying... if I was going to throw Ashton in the middle of an orgy, that's how I'd do it.

Avid Roleplayer, Writier, and soon to be artist right here. I have them ALL down LOL. Well at least in the next year. I'm almost the complete opposite of Ashton. He plays good guy, I are "BAD" to the Bone

I simply say, "Hmmmm.....Kein.....what would you do if you where thrown into this situation?"

I come up with my solution, and right step by step, action by action what my mind would be thinking, body be doing, and emotions I feel. Tis a roleplay, just a semblance of taking the "You" and putting it into the other "You" I hope I didn't hurt thou feelings *bows* I sort of did that once, it made me sad, I don't like people to be sad.

Labrn makes a very good point there, and that's one reason I've not roleplayed for a long time apart from one-on-one with people I know and trust (and usually that's roleplaying as ourselves anyway). It's also why I posted some roleplaying etiquette here a while back.
