|
|
ooc on:
Okay, I've had a couple of people ask "why a gecko" on a fursona site, so... well, here goes. I tend not to talk about myself, as I usually feel kinda plain and I get really nervous talking about myself, but, and maybe it's the Captain Morgan giving me a convincing speach, here goes.
Okay, after graduating college, mind you I graduated college about 10 years ago now... >_<, I was quickly hired on as a summer intern. At work, we had a 100-gallon terrarium, filled with all sorts of tropical plants, flowers, and... like a dozen geckos and 2 or 3 chameleons. So... when I'd get frustrated or bored with work, I'd walk over, and watch the little guys as they were entertaining as all get out. They'd zip around... cling onto the glass... relax under the sunlamps... eat those meal-worm-grub things All-in-all, it was a hoot to watch them.
Anyway, at the companies 2nd anniversary party, everyone got these long-sleeve shirts promoting our product... and covered with shadow-stencils of geckos, and our slogan "Let's stick together".
And... I've liked the little guys eversince. If I really tried, I could probably come up with a furry-type animal that best fits me... but... *shrug* I dunno, for some reason I just like the gecko. Gecko's are nervous, sure, but... very industrious at the same time.
So... there you have it. The mystery revieled. Yeah, I know... kinda lame.
Anyway, how did some of the rest of you all come up with your fursona? |

Thanks for sharing that. I'm always interested in learning how people come up with their fursona. Especially reptiles since my own preference is for characters with fur. I like to learn what the attaraction is to others.
What about your occupation? How did you come up with that?
As for my own fursona, I've been interested in mares for a while. I've only seen a couple of artists who's mares I actually liked, since many seem to make them too rough or realistic or masculine to me. But Vanessa has a very soft and pretty style, which I think will be perfect for how I'd like a mare to look.
What I like about mares is probably the things I tend to associate with equine characters. They're tall, athletic, elegant and such. I also tend to think of mares as more fitting for a mature character than other species. I don't know why that is. It probably has to do with how they aren't petite and cute characters in my mind, but instead rather strong and confident. It's difficult to exlain.
It all just began fitting together perfectly when I was working on my avatar description. I like mature and elegant women, and I wanted to see Vanessa draw a mare, in part because there haven't been any in the comic yet, and I wanted my fursona to be a common species but still not as used as foxes and wolves. I've edited my avatar description many times, mostly to make some changes to her clothes, but also to make some minor changes to her person and personality. Originally she was only 32, but I thought it would be more interested if she was older, so I made her 38 instead.
That's pretty much how I came up with my fursona. Some of it at least. There's of course also her personality, occupation and such, all of which I've given a lot of thought to, but this was just about the basics like her species and such. _________________ Constance Mayflower's bio

The reason i chose a horse was because before i payed for the fee i was only able to see the free preview and well i kinda fell head over heals over Betty... If i hadn't done that and read the comic 1st i would have done a umm... i can't remember the pacific name but a kind of Owl. _________________ yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. that's why it is called the present.

I'm going to be honest here. I had thought of having a wolf as my fursona; however, After some time, I thought about the most animal mostly use in any furry comic/stories such as dogs, wolf, cats, rabbits, etc. So I thought of having a animal that most people don't see much from any furry comic/stories.
My idea having a ferret as my fursona was when a friend of mine brought her ferret to my house while we hang out. I was thinking how his fur looks so pretty and how his personality almost match mine. So on that day, ferret became one of my favorite animal and the reason I choose ferret as my fursona :3. |

Armadillo because thier tough exterior but thier timidity matches my personality. All through High School i never played any of the sports so they would let me stay in the weight room during that period for 6 years. So I got pretty tough but I still get nervous around women lol.
Plus being from Oklahoma I live on a farm and I've stepped in my fair share of armadillo holes _________________ Penguins have the same mate for life. That doesn't surprise me much because they all look alike. It's not like they're going to meet a really new, great looking penguin someday. |

Well, mine was originally from a roleplaying game I used to play called Aetolia, where there was a race called the Rajamalans, who were tiger-like humanoids. My love of furries (and especially cat/tiger furries) was increased by this race, and among my several characters there I created a Rajamalan character called Tadelesh. Eventually, he became my only character there until I stopped playing. My fursona/avatar for here is an adaptation of Tadelesh, modified to fit in the world of Bon Bon. He was always a bit of a flirt, and he was the last character I roleplayed before joining here, so I thought it was perfect. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! That's original. |

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Was the owl character something you had thought of before finding this site, or is it a character you've thought of since being able to read the comic? _________________ Constance Mayflower's bio

When i first started my avatar i was going to do a Artic Wolf but i noticed that there where already a lot of wolves. So i pondered on what else i could make him. So after a little bit i remember i remembered that Betty loves horses so i made him a horse. After about a month i finally got the money to become a paid member so that day i posted my avatar description. About a couple of days later i was watching tv and some one put it on the Animal Planet channel. I decided to watch it and well it was talking about the Northern animals and it got to the part about owls. I almost hit myself for not thinking of a owl when i was thinking of what race i wanted my avatar to be. I have always been fascinated by owls but i forgot completely about them when i did my avatar. Also i didn't know if birds counted as furry until Pollyanna hit the scene. _________________ yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. that's why it is called the present.

Well, it's not too late to change your fursona if that is what you'd want to do, though I know you've put quite a lot of work into it.
Would you have kept your occupation and such for the owl?

Tell you the truth i put hardly no work into my avatar at all. Also i can't change him or else it would mess up the rps i got him in. _________________ yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. that's why it is called the present.

seance this post kind of turned out to be why we picked our animals for our avatar.
the reason i picked a Dire Wolf for my avatar was because they where something people would have to look up to get what it is. i always love knowing random facts about animals and knowing random animals and the dire wolf was my favorite animal that people say whats that to it when u bring it up in a conversation, and i wanted mine to be a wolf so i hope Vanessa will say yes to me using it as my avatar. _________________ you all saw it, the orphanage attacked me first. |

Well I just assumed that you spent a lot of time on it since you have written quite lot about it.
As for not wanting to change your fursona, I'd say that the most important thing is that you have your preferred one. I don't follow the RPs so I can't say whether changing your fursona will cause any problems, but I think that most people would be understanding of you changing, if that is what you really wish. _________________ Constance Mayflower's bio

I know I explained my avatar in a couple of forms in the past but I'll explain again because well.....its fun . I picked a bat cuz their me favorite animal. Ever seance I was little I though a bat would make the coolest pet but sadly you have to go through alot of red tape to get one as a pet.
I know originally my fursonia's occupation was security. I thought of that back when there wasn't a lot tough characters around and I thought what would happen if the patrons in Bon Bon got rowdy. Someone would have to step in to keep the peace but as more and more people began to show up in town I felt like the occupation wasn't really needed, so I turned to a more constructive approach...construction. What better way to Bon Bon beautiful than making wonderful homes for the residents.
Now I kinda based Crimson's character concept on one of my favorite Jet Li movies... Unleashed. I don't know what it is but something about that movie I really liked. Now that I look back at the Rp's I feel like I come off as a little violent, must be the Irish blood that flows though my veins.
And so you have it, the lovable character of Brian "Crimson" O'Toole. _________________ Crimson's Construction.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that tigers are my favourite animals, which is another reason for me wanting to be one. They look so cute and cuddly when they're cubs, then when they grow up they're beautiful and majestic. Also one of the few types of cat that actually love water. _________________ Wow, sarcasm! As a native of Wisconsin (the Badger State) a badger seemed perfect for me. Besides I have much the same attitude. A bit shy and retiring- right up until you manage to get me mad! As to why he's all scarred up, that goes with the times. With the Industrial Revolution in full swing, workers were viewed as a dime a dozen, and accidents were common (as I'm sure our resident rail buff will verify for me). So I had in his backstory about surviving a boiler explosion as a tip of the hat to the ones who weren't so lucky. _________________ I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy. |

I think I've covered mine, but what the heck, maybe the story will be different this time.
Throughout my entire time in the online world, some 20 years or so, I've had only three primary avatars.
The first was a bat-winged demon of sorts and was fairly adolescent, with no depth of character whatsoever, and not really worth detailing beyond that. He lasted probably 2 years.
The second was devised while trying to come up with something that represented me better. I finally settled on the dolphin, and after a brief look, went with the common bottlenose - Tursiops Truncatus. Inspired by the TV show, I actually used the name Flipper for a while. Eventually I ran into places that name was used and had to get a little more original. From there, a simple abbreviation gave me Tursi, which was I fairly proud of.
Tursi the dolphin was always depicted as a fairly typical bottlenose, no special markings, no special traits, except that somehow (always "somehow", in fact), he managed to get around on land without being ridiculous or uncomfortable. This enabled him to interact with people who were not dolphins. It generally was people, in those days I wasn't aware of furs. I didn't mind being the only anthro character around, and most of the time nobody else did either.
After some years of this, I began to question "dolphin" as my avatar. While it was fun, I didn't feel quite aligned to the free-spirited, fun-loving nature of the beast. I felt a little too serious, a little too grumpy, a little too anti-social, and on occasion, a little too ill-equipped to lash out in defense of myself or loved ones. I certainly was not graceful in the water, either!
Eventually, this made me look around at what other choices there were. I'd always liked felines, so that was the family I looked most closely at. House cats were too small, I didn't feel any draw to any of the spotted felines, and tigers felt too big. Lions, though, lions were worth a try. It's possible, and even likely, that the Lion King, and the Chronicles of Narnia, both had a hand in this choice, although I consciously tried to discount them.
So I created a character specifically to test if I liked playing a lion, and called him Mist. I gave him a background and a purpose, and joined new mucks to try him out. This was my first real experiment in online RP, excluding the just for fun spontaneous stuff I've always done with my main character.
It worked for me, in fact. Not only did I enjoy the concept of claws, teeth, and let's never forget the mane!, I was able to draw others into his story, collect allies, and eventually complete the IC purpose for which I created him.
So from that, I changed my persona to lion. I considered changing my name, and decided that I had spent a long time on it, many people knew me by it, and thus, it was my name, it didn't matter if it actually didn't align anymore.
Orginally, Tursi the Lion was patterned after Scar's coloration. But a combination of my poor color vision and some unusually dark posters I had led to FoxxFire drawing my character much darker and more brown than Scar. I liked this enough that I officially defined his body fur as 'chocolate' rather than Scar's burnt orangish hue. And that's pretty much where he's stayed.
Captain Merriwether comes from wanting to adapt my character to the BonBon world. Tursi the computer-processing-lion doesn't work well, and I wanted to be IC, so I did do a lot of research into reasonable trades of the time, and even researched names, which is where his comes from. In all honesty if I were to do it again I would choose slightly differently, but I think he's a decent character and I'm happy to keep him as-is for now. _________________ http://harmlesslion.com |

((Well, here goes. Okay, the um... quick reply to "why a wolverine" would be "Hugh Jackman"... yeah, I know... lame. So, I went to watch X-men with all my friends, and... um... well... he made a really hot wolverine. I guess that's about it.
As for the tobacconist, I do smoke... so... um... everyone says, "write what you know about"... so I thought it would fit. The weird thing is, smoking is kinda expensive. So... I roll my own cigarettes. You're way less likely to keep lighting up, when it takes you some 10 mins to just make one cigarrette. And, before anyone asks, no... I don't put "special tobacco" in my cigs... and, yes, I have had to surrender them because people thought they were joints. Just... um... be nice. Apparently there is a lot of difference between smoking, and actually being a tobacconist.)) |

You know, we do have to give you credit for that Marauder. Your one of the few we have who has a scar, though I think a few of the military kind of members characters may have some. It was a dangerous time, the start of the 20th century.
The closest thing I would have to any of that is the marking on a certain area of mine, that I'm sure your all aware of thanks to an X-ray or two.
My character is designed off Jenny and her kind from Bucky O'Hare. A sister in exile, for the Aldeberan Sisterhood is so tight knit, what would happen to a girl who was cast out or on her own? Enter Mystic, a gal who's had it rough since birth, but at least the ride was a little cushy thanks to be royalty. My story is buried somewhere in this forum, if your interested. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself
