Well, that depends. You could always do theatre parodies.

Hey folks, been a while. See? I'm not dead... I think... *Checks pulse*

On the subject of fursona professions, I believe my own vulpine would be a "Blacksmith" or to broaden the possible functions, a "Metal-smith"

I suspect it would come in handy for those situations calling for the base materials some of the other professions (The Mechanics and Engineers come to mind) might need for their work. Heck, the Delight castle might be in need of more fuzzy handcuffs.

My fursona "Kenjin" is a Kitsune, but in a more common sense of the word. (Being just a reference to a fox, not the mythological troublemakers, and/or servants to the Deity Inari.) So as one who could forge one, he could also supply Mr. Wolfwood with some Authentic Katana's for his lessons in swordplay (Kenjutsu if you will.)

Or when Johnny needs a fresh supply of bullets. He'll know where to go get the lead.

It is but an idea. And my fursona is still but an idea stuck in my widdle head. I'd love to hear some feedback on this idea. If it's not too much trouble?
Cool

Cool

When you say blacksmith, I think of an anthro bull. Because in my mind, the picture of a big muscular guy, hammering away at an avil, really fits perfectly with a the steotypical bull. And it's also a stereotype of a blacksmith.

So that's definately not to say that yours won't work, I really like the idea of a blacksmith. But how do you think of your blacksmith? I get the impression that you want more of a sophisticated blacksmith, rather than the stereotype I mentioned above. Finesse and craftsmanship, rather than brute force. Is that correct?

Indeedy do Symphony. Cool

Being of the sort who forged blades for Samurai, a sleek, quality cutting edge made with flawless precision was my thinking. When you throw the word finesse in there, doesn't exactly scream "Bulging muscles everywhere."

Kudos for being dead on Very Happy

Not to say that a couple of big burly bulls or equines wouldn't be helpful in lugging in such heavy loads of ore and minerals to be refined by my fursona. Would definitely make quite the unintentional show for some of the ladies working the streets of our little paradise.

There's something about the word "blacksmith" that in my mind just doesn't fit your description. It sounds too crude. Weaponsmith is better, but that is sort of limiting. We need a better title. Laughing Something that makes you think of the words you used for the Samurai blades. Sleek, flawless precision etc.

It's just because I tend to associate a certain stereotype with the title blacksmith. There's of course nothing wrong with you choosing to be a blacksmith, as we'll know so much more about youur fursona than just the title of your occupation.

Hmm, I agree with you there, blacksmith is too general to keep most folks from thinking of a soot covered old guy with huge muscles and a beard. Laughing

You're also right that "Weaponsmith is limiting, and it's doubtful there would be much of a call for it in Bonbon.

It's why I thought of "Metal-smith" as well, but it doesn't have the same kind of ring to it.

Hmmm... It does bring up a bit of a conundrum doesn't it? Ah well. I'll work at some ideas. We'll see how it plays out, if at all! Who's to say what lies in lady Vanessa's mind? Question

Perhaps "Steel-smith"? Heh, I don't even know if there's really anything that's called that. Sounds a bit odd, I think.

I think that whitesmith sounds good, but that's something else than what your fursona does.

Well, you have to remember, Symphony, that the blacksmith is a very generalized term, and that blacksmithing falls under numerous uses, from shoeing horses to making everyday utensils. I'm quite certain any weapon-smith worth his salt probably uses his skills for the more mundane smithing arts most of the time, as only the richest of patrons can afford to have finely-crafted weapons forged by a master weapon maker.

Plus, remember that BonBon's setting is the late Victorian era, when swords have become mostly status symbols and ornamentation, having been replaced on the battlefields of the world with guns. Plus, the late Victorian era coincided with the Meiji era in Japan, when the brandishing of swords was made illegal by the Meiji government, thus lowering the demand on traditional Japanese sword making all together.

"Blacksmith" is a very general term, but by this point in history there wouldn't be many purely devoted weaponsmiths in the world making much money beyond making swords for military officers and noblemen. Most who haven't already moved on to gunsmithing would likely be better suited serving as general blacksmiths.

You're right, Johnny. It's just that my idea so far of kenjin's fursona, just doesn't fit with the more historically correct or realistic blacksmith that you mention. I have so far thought of him as someone who makes a living from more expensive products and services, than merely shooing horses and such. Kind of a master smith the rich people hire when they need something really special.

I sort of like the idea of a master smith hiding away his abilities behind the guise of a blacksmith or a maker of kitchen knives... the reasons for his wanting to hide could be philosophical, personal, or even just economical (after all, how many people, in a city known for the sex-trade and gambling, would really need the use of a high-quality samurai sword?)

Then again, this is neither my character nor yours, Symphony... we should just let kenjin decide himself...

Ahh, you've made an exellent point Johnny, there lies the advantage in double trade. One product may be less desirable, but if you selling something else that people want, it draws buisness to the other product. Take Spirits and Sidearms for example. The whole idea there is that porbably, most people in BonBon have no use for firearms, but there's always a need for some good Spirits! Wink Laughing

No way. I'll to decide it right now. Kenjin is going to be a Panty-smith. I have no idea what it is, but I'm sure there's a need for someone like that in Bon Bon. Tongue

You're quite correct about the Meiji era Johnny. With that in mind it was going to be part of the storyline flow that explained how Kenjin arrives in bonbon. From East to West, settling in a place that might have use for someone of his skills.

It was the idea for the general forging of Metals for material use, or the crafting of whatever item the customer might desire. Lord knows how much material Jillian would need to build new inventions. Or what sort of materials someone like Mr. Pilkington would need to begin rebuilding Scarlett's castle? That was the motivation. Sort of a "What do you need made?" kind of mentality. To which has now been mentioned as I slowly type.

The Samurai sword, being outlawed in his home territory, would more than likely be a decorative momento of an era gone by. Collectors could spend big money to own a piece of history.

But this discussion has brought a new perspective with Symphony's mention of being hired by the rich for custom craft jobs. Very fine living where one could afford to time spend at the delight castle you could say.

True, a fox (typically a lithe and springy creature) hardly seems to be a candidate for the harsh work of a blacksmith. So I can see that.

Before we continue the discussion, I'd like to thank you all, and offer anyone else to throw in their two-cents if they so chose.

... And the slowness continues...

My dear symphony? Do you happen to mean the kind of revolutionary new panties reinforced to withstand all those desperate tugging and tearing off? No longer must working ladies of the night have to spend their hard earned florins to replace their destroyed garments to overly enthusiastic customers!

I see that you have obviously given a lot of thought to your fursona and the occupation. I'll look forward to seeing it in the avatar request thread, so I can get a better idea of the rest of your fursona.

If you could invent something like that, I'm sure you'd be offered a full time position at the Delight Castle. You might even get paid in alternative ways Wink

Heh. Provided my materials were covered, I'd be more than happy to accept that sort of payment. Poor Ronald though, think of the Nightmare I'd put him through as the accountant?

Leon I could see doing any odd jobs that will pay during daylight hours. Still, being one who grew up with the paranormal always trying to rip his neck open, he'd spend his nights patroling the city (And keeping a VERY sharp eye on Scarlett; Half vampire or not, to him vampiric blood is a dark liniage.) Considering how strong he is, he'd have no trouble heaving crates of ore or refined goods around a smith.

As for a gun and drink store, you can bet every sexy ass in Bon Bon he'd visit daily, if only for the banter about fire arms!

When Kenjin described his fursona, I didn't think of a big, bull-sized figure. The way he described it reminded me of Hattori Hanzo, from Kill Bill: an old man who crafts beautiful but deadly swords. A vulpine figure fits quite well in my mind.

As for the panty-smith idea, that makes me think of chastity belts. Not much call for those in Bon Bon; apart from Simon, who'd likely want to make Mary wear one. Laughing

If Simon were to approach Kenjin for that sort of request... The vulpine smithy would refuse it out of respect for the beauty of the nude female form. Even if Mr. Blue had the entire clan treasury to throw at him. A man's gotta have principles!

There ought to be a law against chastity belts in Bon Bon. They are a crime against the town itself. Laughing

We need someone to run for mayor, so we can make sure that these atrocities will never be used in Bon Bon.
