Back again... so I figured I'd use my thread to update again. Wink Spent a week in Canada, my longest visit to my hometown in quite a number of years now, and that was outstanding. Then three weeks back in California working onsite at my still-current job. That was a bit odd, but seemed to go smoothly enough. I think I prefer working remote, though.

Coming back home to Florida was both wanted and not -- not because the trip was over, and wanted because I have a really nice bed. (Lions need their sleep!) Glad to be home, though, and going through the stack of mail is taking a while. It'll be a little time before I set off again - hopefully I can catch up!

I thought I'd note that I actually tried out one of the other furry pay sites - I won't name names to be fair - and it's just impossible to beat the value, quality, and community feel of Pleasure BonBon. You guys deserve to be proud of your accomplishment. Smile

Just in time for Hurricane Season, hopefully it is an uneventful one.

If it's any consolation, Tursi, we've been having a ton of storms up where I live, in Michigan, and last week a tornado touched down not far from where I live.

Doesn't seem like there's anywhere in the country (or the world, for that matter) that doesn't have some sort of destructive weather or other localized environmental hazards. We get tornados and floods in the midwest, the coasts get hurricanes, and let's not forget all the earthquakes in Cali...

Well, in the twenty six years I've lived in Virginia I can't remember anything that could constitute "destructive weather" or "localized environmental hazards". We've had a couple of bad snow storms in the past and sure there have been some cases of property damage due to weather, but nothing like what you're talking about. I wonder if that's because most of northern Virginia was originally swampland. Wassat

I can sympathize with that. I've been through two of the buggers myself. Bob and George (yes I'm serious and no I don't think they were named after the comic strip) in the mid and late 90's. dry

as for natural disasters Arizona has a tendency to randomly burst into flame every once in a while... you know its bad when you hear "Mt. Lemon is on fire." "What? Again?"

Look on the bright side, Bestile, you'll never have to worry about a lack of opportunity to make Smores.

Waaaait a minute... that sounds very familiar. Do you by chance live near Tucson? My grandparents used to live there.

In some places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, you'll see signs (usually in the summer) warning motorists about whether or not conditions are good for forest or wild fires. Then again, I haven't heard much in recent years about wild fires up there... Then again, they're so far up north it's not unheard of for them to still have snow on the ground til May!

Interesting how this topic last bumped into Arizona, since I've been here for the last two weeks working at the test labs at Ft Huachuca. I thought perhaps our gunslinging friends could appreciate that I spent the day today at Tombstone, AZ, a town that I previously thought had faded into legend and history.

Home of the legendary 'Gunfight at the OK Corral', Tombstone is pretty much all tourism today. But it's still cool, and personally I just love soaking in the history of places that I visit. I could totally get into the character of that place, and given the era of its boom, I found myself thinking of Pleasure BonBon at the same time (especially while checking out the 'Theatre'). While there's a lot that's just touristy there, there is also a lot that is true history.

When I get home, which at this rate is another 4 weeks away, I will post my photos. Sadly I didn't bring my camera dock.

Yeah, I visited Tombstone years ago and thought it was a blast... Plus, Tuscon also has "Old Tucson", another Old West tourist attraction. It was originally built as a movie set for the film Arizona back in 1939 and was reused in many westerns throughout the 1950's, and was eventually turned into a sort of theme-park. I guess they still sometimes film there as well, perhaps the most well-known recent movies flimed there being The Quick and the Dead and Tombstone (also ironic that it wasn't filmed in Tombstone).

Actually, I just found a page on IMDb that shows a listing of just about every movie that shot on location in "Old Tucson". click here

Man, I haven't been to Arizona in years... looks like it's about time I went back. Very Happy

And to think, my exposure to the old west resides in fond memories of Blazing Saddles, a couple Clint Eastwood films and City Slickers 1 and 2...boy am I deprived....well, not really. Laughing

As for the latest comic strip....could this be "the book" written by the fair Daphne that Betty has so graciously given to her? If so, I hope to see more excerpts.

When I went out to Utah last fall,I got a chance to see the "bandlands" and the Great Salt Lake.Being a life long New Englander,I didn't care all that much for the West or the desert for that matter. Far too much "brown" everywhere for my taste.

The Sonora Desert in Arizona is actually surprisingly colorful, not exactly what I envisioned a "desert" to look like. It's the only place in the world where the famous saguaro cactus grow wild. I remember being pretty amazed seeing those huge cacti for the first time, and they're absolutely everywhere in Tucson.

As for the current comic, I suppose now would be as good a time as any to re-introduce us readers to Daphne Mallow's literary delights. It has been a while since we've seen any sign of her in the story...

I'm afraid I've never had to worry about forest fires. Living in central US (Illinois) all we worry of is tornadoes and the occasional flooding of the Mississippi.

I grew up in Illinois, too, so I know all about tornados... And when the National Weather Service issues an Alert, I still know what the difference is between a "Warning" and a "Watch". When you grow up in the MidWest, you tend to become an expert on meteorology. Smile

Okay, home at last, again. Posted some Tombstone and area pics at http://www.harmlesslion.com/gallery/tombstone (including some of one of the rather cheesy attractions, the Good Enough Silver Mine, Boot Hill, and random shots).

Got caught up here, and what a great update - new story pages (including the Ball! Vanessa, thank you again for including the Captain, it's always nice to get a chance to be up close with Margarete Wink ), new strip tease pics which were wonderful, new Scarlett comics - even a new Illusion page which I was really glad to see!

My travels took me from Arizona back to California/San Francisco, and finally back "home" to British Columbia/Penticton to visit friends before returning to Florida. I've been home all of four hours, I'm still catching up. Wink

Sounds like you've been all over the place. Glad to have you back!

I like the pics, by the way. The ones of the vitage photos on the wall were pretty cool... they look like the sort of thing that would hang from the walls of a saloon or a brothel maybe.

Yeah, I wish I could have got straight-on shots of all the vintage photos and signs, but most of the preserved rooms were behind doors/bars/etc and as it was getting a clean shot was tough.

Really? all you do is drive about 5 miles out of town in any direction and you'll find vintage stuff preserved the old fashioned way.... or a haunted graveyard... and that one bridge that all the natives refuse to drive across at night even though its like a 50 mile trip to go around

Ooh.. that's got my interest peaked. Next time I'm heading out that way, I've got to bug you for some details on that.

Much prefer the old fashioned preservation, old buildings and such really work for me, even the creepy ones. Wink
