Alright, this should make for an interesting thread. Tell me what actually drew you to the furry fandom. If any of you say anything that relates to a neko. I will kick you. >< I think that nekos are not considered as a furry. Heh I won't tell unless I get some responses. ^^

Okay. I'll be first.
Some one asked me if I chould draw them a furry picture, but I had never tried it before. So I searched the Internet to make some research. There I found this website and the more I looked the more I liked.
Conclusion: I have been a furry fan for a mounth now and an furry artist for 3 weeks! Very Happy

I know this topic has come up before but for the life of me I can't remember where. But to answer your question, it was Camelot MUCK, a good ten years ago that first introduced me to furries.

Methinks the instance you are thinking of was in the thread "hey everybody", where several people, including myself, told of their first furry experience. I'll repeat myself here and say my first furry experience was in Disney's Robin Hood.

In all honesty, Chessy's never been that into furries until she discovered Herisheft and PBB. Up until then, Chessy was a catgirl with kitty ears and a tail. Though she was always a shapeshifter, so becoming a furry was an easy transition.

I can't really tell which Webcomic was the first one that made my first contact with furry art. In my bookmarks are Jack, Carpe Diem, Better Days, Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures, Gene Catlow, Poisoned Minds .. to list a few Smile I think Poisoned Minds is one of the first ones.

Actually, it was nekos that led me to furries. Now, before you kick me, please hear me out.

I would frequently do searches for neko images, but there were always a few furry images mixed in. I usually skipped over those, because they were definately NOT what I wanted. I would see them and think, "Nah, too furry for me."

One day, I decided to check them out, just to see what the big deal was. after a while, I found myself checking out the furry pics more then the neko pics. Now I see a neko pic and think, "Nah, not furry enough for me."

I agree that nekos are not furries, but they can be likened to a "gateway drug." I've read what other people said on other forums about how they got into furries, and nekos were mentioned frequently.

*Puts on a cup just to be safe*

Jack, Better Days, and DMFA actually rank in the top 5 of my favorite furry comics. (PBB is #1, of course.) Wink

I still contend catgirls are furry, but only because I've still never heard a compelling argument by anyone to make me believe otherwise... But I digress...

I suppose what made me a proud, die-hard furry was the joint discovery of this comic (when it was first nestled within the confines of the Vixine site), the now defunct "Fur Will Fly" webcomic (no sex, but still a fun read), and the Yiffstar site, but the seeds of furry fandom were there from far earlier...

I always enjoyed cartoons that featured talking animal characters, from old Looney Tunes to the Secret of Nimh and even many of the Disney classics like the fore-mentioned Robin Hood movie or Jungle Book. Hell, Thundercats and TMNT may have been the cornerstone for most of my TV viewing in the 80's. But the first time I ever started having "funny feelings" for teh furries was when the character Minerva Mink first made her entrance into the cartoon "Animaniacs" (and I know I'm not the first one to say it, either, considering the plethora of freaky Minerva Mink porn you can find all over the interwebs). Now, mind you, this wasn't the first time I'd ever gotten that "funny feeling" about a cartoon character (I'd still totally nail Daphne from Scooby Doo, but then again I know I'm not alone in that thought either), but this was the first time an animal character made me think dirty thoughts. I mean, seriously, whoever designed Minerva Mink deserves a high five and a beer as far as I'm concerned. Also, a little later, I found Felicia from the Dark Stalkers/Vampire Hunters games very sexy indeed (yes, you heard me, a CAT-GIRL!), and I figured being attracted to furry characters wasn't necessarily as freaky as it may have otherwise seemed.

Mostly, though, I kept these sorts of things as a "dirty little secret" until I found this place and some other sites dedicated specifically to adult furry fandom. Now, I pretty much can't hide my love of teh furrehs...

Hm now thats interesting and I see why Robin's kind of cute. ^^

Chessy
Weeeell that amuses me. Though no offense I don't really care for shape shifters. As long as it's not shifting into another species then it's all good. But yeah if it was PBB that I would've came across first into the furry world then I know damn hell I would've been into it. The story line is awsome and the art work is to die for.

Bestile1
Comics eh? From what I've heard from others its either that or a cartoon. ^^

green_fox
I've only heard of what...two if them Better Days...very nice ^^ and maybe Dan but I doubt it.

Aurioch
-Gets ready to kick him but at the last second, wipes out the stamp of approval and stamps his forehead- ^^ You fought a good battle. Your reslove has not gone on deaf ears and now that I think about it. You have a point. Though they are a gate way to a certain extent of course. Heh furry fandom is a drug, hard to get off of but ok to stay hooked on.

JohnnyPsycho
I was cheering all the way until you said Felicia. But who am I to judge right? I mean it just boosted the inner furry we all have. It just takes that extra push. In reality she is the closest cat-girl/neko that would be a furry. So over-all it's all good. ^^

Aaaaw I didn't get to kick anyone. Wait...I mean yay! But seriously all are very interesting. Well...It is my turn but sadly as I'm making this post it's almost 3am and I have to work a double shift. Plus I stayed late at work so yeah. I owe you guys...for those that care.

Heaven or hell, rock on!

I don't really remember exactly how I became interested in Furry. I seem to recall having some fantasies about Furry characters without really knowing how much of it was around. I think I may have been influenced by the cartoons I used to watch. Anyway, it was really just a small fantasy of mine, until I one day happened to come by some nice Furry artwork while randomly browsing a couple of sites.

Ever since that moment I've been searching for more. In the beginning I was interested in as much Furry as I could find, but I've since become a lot more picky. Now I really don't like most Furry I see, as it's often too realistic or too poor quality for me. Vanessa's artwork is just right for me Razz

I was first drawn to furries by Disney's Robin Hood, just like Ashton. However, my first furry hero was Sonic the Hedgehog, and the thing that sparked not only my erotic taste for furries but mind control as well was in the very first episode of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon I saw, where Dr. Robotnick had taken the magic crystal of a sleeping wizard and used it to brainwash both Sally Acorn and Bunnie Rabbot into his servents. Since then, I've been more into furries and anime girls than porn. Hentai for da winzor!

Robin Hood was a major influence on me too. Also, all the independant b/w comiccs that came out back in late 80's that featured furry characters.I am quite fortunate to have seen furry fandom grow from a small group of artists and comic writers into the huge international juggernaut that it is now.If you had asked me back in '92 if furry would become this big I would have said you were crazy.Makes me wonder what the future holds.

Ohh I remember that I once got my hands on a black & white Furry comic when I was a kid. Funny thing is that despite all the sex in it, I didn't really think much of it until quite some time after I finally discovered the Furry fandom.

Hmm well your story is interesting as well.... fantasies, now that's amusing to these ears. -Chuckles-

Shadow9808
Sonic huh? Hmm back in the day when sonic furry was out it was cool. Today it's kinnda over rated. Funny thing is now I can watch the cartoon cause I just laugh as yiff images pop in my head at random like a slide show. o.o Though the classic games were cool.

Foxonian
Robin hood yet shoots another with his furry arrow. ^^

I sometimes wonder why I like Furry artwork. A lot of people who don't know about Furry or just don't like it, often look at the characters as simply animals, and I think it's difficult to really explain it to them. I personally don't look at the characters as animals. I think of them as humans, where the animal traits are simply used to further distinguish them from each other. Though I do tend to think of the characters to have a certain personality depending on the species they are, like a feline being playful, a canine being loyal or something like that.

I definately prefer the characters to have hands, because without them they wouldn't really be able to do the many things that humans do, and to a lesser extent feet as well, simply because I think they look better than hooves or paws. I also prefer them to have hair, like a human would, as it adds to the character.

Now all of that I've sometimes found it difficult to explain to some of the people I've talked to about Furry. They just see some characters that are more animal than human in their eyes.

Myself, I have come to the understanding i have always been furry, even since a child, i just didn't realize it, and until i was about 17-18 (when i got a computer and internet *grew up in a small town*).

But as a child i remember always crawling around and meowing, sleeping in the sunlight of the bay window, amung many other feline things. I was always feline in nature and qualities. Gee to this day i still have a knack for falling asleep in front of sunlit windows.

As for when i came to understand Furry, i can't recall how i founf it, but i found a website of naked female furs, it was someones personal website, nothing major like FA, Fchan, etc. and well it just slowly grew from there as a hidden secret in me till i moved to the big city at 21, and after a while here i happen to find a yahoo group of a local furry community, and though to myself "Maybe i can check it out." and from that point on (the last 6.5 years) I have simply been in love with it all, and have become a new person. And happy i did, as i found the best Partner i could of through the furry world.

Oddly enough my discovery of liking men, came along the same route, through furry pics and such.

The first time I found interest in the Furry fathom was when I played High Tail Hall. I didn't think much about it, as I found greater entertainment with the comics.

Yeeeah I started this thread like a while. I think I owe some of you a story. I've been a little busy so yeah ^_^. Some of you probably don't care but meh I have a guilty conscience. Well lets put it this way I'm bi and this little story will kind of add up it self of how I became a furry and what kind of furrys I'm into.

Well... I believe it started when I was about 10 years old. I had my first experience... with my step brother. It kind of started one night well my brother called me to his bedroom and what. It was like 9 in the evening... So I went to his room and he was playing the SNES and we started playing. Well next thing you know I started touching me and I was kind of freaking out but well.... heh yeah I'm sure you guys can guess what happened. That story is for another time. Well this went one for sometime and he actually had me wearing women clothing. Yeah I know. But on day my father found out and beat the living crap out of my brother.

Now... this is where the furry fandom takes place. It started while watching a cartoon show called Road Rovers. That was a spark that dwell deep inside. Next was another cartoon show Swat Kats. Oh man.... heh. And then there was Biker Mice From Mars. Theres a few more shows but this was at the top of my list.

Well In due time... I started to focus my attention to a few games... two Star Fox, yes I know it's kind of over rated but sue me. But little did I know and I didn't realize that it was the male characters I was staring at. Go figure.

Well what really struck the furry inside me was my ex-girlfriend. She showed me pretty much what I wanted to know. I had my suspicions about this all along but I never deiced to dig into it. Well.... after that the rest his history. As for what type of furrys or people I'm into well... this for another time. If you guys have any questions and what I'll answer them. Some might be curious and some of you might not care but I finally got this done so YAY! And sorry for the delay for those that do care.

Space Jam, as ridiculous as it sounds. I believe that's when I first realized it. God, I don't even remember how young I was back then, but I definitely knew it after watching that movie. We had a computer then, so all it took was a little research online to bring me more into the fandom. And here I am today. Smile

I was grown up with furries in tv when I was a child which is the reason why many people out of my generation in austria are in the furry fandom. Special I am much into the fur-bodypainting, it just looks so awsome~
