It has come to my attention that something needs to be discussed and determined. Prices.
Some few months ago I joined an RP and was confronted with needing to pay for a room at the Inn. At the time, for that thread, the price of a room was set at 10 florins for 1 week. Over the course of the last few months, I've noticed more and more occasions where pricing has been addressed in an RP. Loretta has been charging 1 florin for an hour of her time and 5 for an entire night in her threads of... pleasure. At one stage in the "Fran's finest" thread, I believe it was mentioned that the waitresses were making some 80 florins per week.
I have now had my attention drawn once more to pricing in my own thread with Hoshi where an acre of undeveloped land costs a mere 20 florins.
Now over the many years, prices for things have continued to increase. I think this board is neglecting to take into account the rise of prices since 1895 and I think it's time that we sat down and figured out some kind of conversion rate so that we can accurately figure out just what these prices should be.
What is today's equivalent of 1 florin? 10 florins? 100 florins? Some may not see this as a serious matter, and it's probably not that serious, but I think, in the interest of better RP flow, that we should at least attempt to figure out what these prices should be.

I said 20 florins for half an acre ....but mind you i have no clue how much a florin was back then ....
i know that in America an acre was quite cheep at the time because America had a lot of land i believe it was anywhere from $5-$10 ...but i don't know the conversion rate between 1895 USD and 1895 florins

So your trying to figure out a conversion rate for common currency and florins? Something like this then:
1 dollar = 5 florins
or
5 florins = 1 dollar
Something along those lines.

Pretty much, yes. I want to figure out a conversion rate so that people can accurately determine how much something should cost.

yeah but the conversion rate for 1895 not now....it would give some of us a better understanding on how much things cost

What this thread is meant for is to determine a conversion rate between today's dollar and then's florin. e.g. 1 today dollar = 1 then florin. But considering things were way cheaper then, it may be more like 10 today dollars = 1 then florin.
This thread is meant for the RP forum goers to discuss and decided on a conversion rate all can agree on for the betterment of RPing. It doesn't necessarily have to be historically accurate, just as long as people have an idea of what the price is that they are sticking to something and if it is what it should be or not.

Which would make buying, say a home, 2,580,000 florins.
So I think its best to say a 10:1 ratio might not be best

well back then money was much more valuable ...even the 1800's US penny was worth more than it is now ....

This RP should help some of us clear this up.
In the comic, we should be able to look at the ways that florins are spent amd the current prices, like when they're handing out the flyers for the Delight Castle restaurant.
We could start there as an example and look at the standard florin price of a high class meal.
Or we could wait to see if Ronald or Vanessa posts a reply to this so we have a much more accurate number.

A good idea. Sadly though, one that I doubt will happen anytime soon. I think it's more prudent that we ourselves sort this matter out.

Gotta take into account the price rise over that time. But directly converting from then to today, that'd probably be quite close to accurate.
