Well, to be quite honest, I'm not finding a whole lot to like about it so far. I do like how Faith's been reimagined and recreated so that she has more personality to her than just a bounty hunter babe with a gun. I also think the new Flash tricks Jeff has instituted are interesting and help make the comic a little livelier (even if it does make it a whole lot *longer* to download for those of us stuck on dial-up).
But other than that, it really hasn't caught my interest. I'm far more interested in the regular comic. I think I understand why she's been given her own - to act as a kind of introduction to her reformed character, so that Jeff won't have to go over it in the main comic and take up valuable story time. Makes sense to me, but it does take attention and energy away from the "first-run" story that's in progress. Of course this is all just my opinion, and thus to be taken with a grain of salt as far as action/inaction goes. And please don't take this as my not liking Faith - I think she's much more interesting now than she used to be, and I'd like to see her in the ongoing story sometime! I would just like to see more of *that* story going than of this kind of side thing. Thanks.

Yep, she is interesting. This version of Faith is far better than the old one. The flash comic format is neat too. Exactly how do I save it to my desktop? Despite my approval of the character AND the comic format, I have to say that I keep logging on to see what the "gals" are up to in Canada.
Any idea when the new "gals" will replace their old versions in the casino?
Jeff, are we demanding little snots? Please don't send She Bulk over to my house to beat me up. Er, um, yes, maybe you should send her over, after all. She can liven things up, as well as help me tidy things up! =)

The Faith comic is an experiment to expand the potential of the digital canvas. The original comic is still continuing, and will be the main focus of updates for the rest of the month, but I've had a few ideas taking root, and had to get them from my head onto the screen.
Faith was one of the characters who was named from a pin-up series I did when we were forming the site, but after a little inspiration struck, I came up with what I hope is a much deeper and more interesting character with stories to tell. There are a few other babes in the roster that fall into the same category, and may get more attention in the future.
The new comic is testing the digital waters on the web for publishing possibilities. We've been doing bitmap images in traditional comic shape and size because that's what people accept as being a comic book. The web presents us with many more creative options, however, and a pretty vast area to tell stories in. Looking at the work so far, I see a little too much motion at one time, where there could maybe be more mouse-activated animations or sounds (like the wall on page 4 - for those that noticed it). There are also possibilities for adding hot-spots or links to wallpaper, other web pages or sounds. It can be updated a panel at a time, instead of a whole page, which can go a little quicker.
This is sort of a side-project for us, and will only be updated from time-to-time, so we'll be back on the main comic for now.
Thanks for watching!

The way I saw this, Jeff was acting on inspiration. Sometimes, a voice in my head starts demanding, "do this", and gets me all fired up. And it'll keep up me up at night and distract me during the day until I do it. While working on it, I work like crazy; productivity shoots up; and the result is usually pretty good. I figured that was the deal here. (Things sparked when cmdctrlesc put Penny Dreadful up on Renderosity...)
As for the Flash stuff... it wasn't working for me, either. To me, the animation and interactivity should reveal things that a pen-and-ink comic can't. Sound is good (though the *splat* sounded too humorous to fit the scene here).
The slow zooms aren't compelling enough; if there's gonna be action, let there be ACTION! Faith baring her fangs should've started small and then leapt out into the foreground. Anywhere you draw those - I forget the term; focus lines? The lines radiating from the focus of a picture - you could try a striking zoom animation instead. Trigger it on a mouseover, so that the reader gets the proper effect (it shouldn't be zinging in and out while the reader's looking at another frame). More links and stuff, as you say, would've been good, too. Easter egg-y stuff. Big scene, fair amount of detail; but what's this? The reader spots something interesting in a dark corner, mouses over it, and lo, something fades into view there.
Anyway, I like the overall look of the street and the punks. It'd be a great static comic, and the Flash doesn't hurt the look (and I can screen-capture anything I want anyway, so I'm not complaining ).
