|
|
Okay, the thought of what kind of jobs that my character could play in recently gave me some perspective about some of the things that Bon Bon needs. The types of jobs are abundant, as seen by the many characters seen in the comic, but it poses the question: What kind of jobs are needed later in the story? Granted,I'm sure that Miss Vanessa would not have trouble creating characters for those needs, though I'm sure it would be a little less tougher for her if she did not have to create static characters when those needs are not met. For those who are not a Golden Ace Member (Those who have been active in the boards and payments), we can discuss it in detail, that way, when it comes time for you to have your custom avatar and character, miss Vanessa would more easily be able to put our characters in the mix.
For example, at first, I thought of being a bodyguard, the same kind of character that was already filled by at least three other characters, albeit somewhat different kind of jobs, like commando, bodyguard, etc. I got to thinking that I could still have somewhat a decent character that is still original, but still have fun with it. The wikipedia and google searches lead me to believe that in the late 1800's, being a post master was a difficult, often dangerous job if one traveled from one place to the next, since highway men could always rob them of any valuable objects they were set out to do.

Is there a newspaper in Bon bon because every major town or city relied on the newspaper for news and information.
An editor, and several reporters would be needed. _________________ You sure this is a good bone or not. |

Well I still think of a curio store if that would be useful.
Just something there like someone wants elegant yet strange items that catch your eye. (either the lovely or naughty kind) _________________ Fursona Info.

There are a number of guards out there, both personal and for the town.
Though, you don't actually have to have a job in Bon Bon. You could be a traveling gambler like a few have been. _________________ Oh, I'd tell myself

I like it when people come up with occupations that really fit in with the theme of Bon Bon. Those are the most interesting ones to me. With that said, I think it's best for peopel to come up with an occupation that also makes sense for their own character, and not really worry so much about what kind of job might give the better cameo. Though it should be said that it might be more difficult for Vanessa to fit the warrior types into the comic, due to the way they might be in contrast to the victorian romance setting of Bon Bon.
I like your choice of postman BTW. _________________ Constance Mayflower's bio

Why not like a circus or carnival owner or something. That's very period. I mean, you could be like a Ringling Bros. or a Barnum and Baily kinda stage-man. I've always kinda found those things really fun... and it does kinda fit the leisure-style of Bon Bon |

Of course with all the money being spent within the town itself, there must be some kind of accounting/tax agency or something to help people keep track of their expenses. _________________ My Fursona

A journalist in Bon Bon..? Heh, in this town, I imagine it is more like a guy printing out a lurid magazine. Or maybe one of those write-in things where they print collections of letters from readers talking about their exploits and fantasies. _________________ "Doktor! Are you sure this will work?!" "HAHA! Eh... No, Henk. While I certainly believe they exist in the setting and not something to be ignored or proclaimed non-existant, I'd rather not linger on it long. Nothing can kill sex fantasies faster than getting whacked upside the head with a Physician's Desk Reference.
I do find the idea of a psychologist in Bon Bon intensely amusing, though. Combination sex therapist and psychoanalyst? Sometimes a cigar is not just a cigar. _________________ "Doktor! Are you sure this will work?!" "HAHA! I HAVE NO IDEA!" |

P.T. Barnum was actually operating in America around this time, so something like his circus of swindlers wouldn't be out of the question.
Also, Adept, it's spelled Freud. |

The nature of this topic brings a question to mind. Doktor Fuchs, would you be so kind as to enlighten me as to the nature of your medical practice in Bon Bon? If I understand correctly, you are more of a pharmacologist and/or gynecologist than a surgeon. Is this the case? Because if it is, then that would leave the occupation of "Sawbones" available, would it not? Or am I mistaken? _________________ I like old jokes. With them I know when to laugh. |

A pharmachologist, yes you'd definitely need a sawbones. A gynecologist, or a general practice doctor which is what i see more fitting to what kommy is, would have some general surgical knowledge for two reason tha i can think of flawed as they may be.. 1 distasteful as it may be abortion, and the other extremity, cesareans. _________________ My Fursona(updates occasionally) http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7537

Specialization is for insects, my dear Xebulon. Particularly in such a small community as Bon Bon. I am a general practitioner of the medical arts. I can set a broken bone, debride a wound, mix a draught of remedy, and write scholarly treatises.
Because if I recall correctly, the obsession with specialization that characterizes modern medicine and science has barely begun in this time period, particularly in medicine. Of course, the base nature of surgery means that the old practice of it being delegated to a barber may still be around, but I don't think that's hygienic.
Say, there's another good idea. A furstylist. There's got to be a nice salon or barbershop somewhere in town... _________________ "Doktor! Are you sure this will work?!" "HAHA! I HAVE NO IDEA!" |

i guess i really should have thought of a useful occupation for my character maybe just something that he does when he is not out on unofficial business, i must meditate on this _________________ wondering where the jackal came from: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7940 updates here or there
