Alley,
You may remember a phone conversation we had on KEEN a while back - I’m the guy studying to be a pastor in Philly – who confessed he stands in awe of your beauty, yet also feels a sense that in that admiration, it serves to detract from my relationship w/other women, and turns you, Alley, into an object rather than the beautiful complete woman that you are:) Anyway, recently I’ve been looking through some of your archived sets, and for whatever reason I’ve been able to look at you more as an artist, rather than a seductress…and that has given me a new appreciation for just how wonderfully made you are. Sets like “Victorian Era,” “Tropical,” and “Tequila Sunrise” are so incredibly sexy yet artistic. I’m curious, though, how do you see yourself and the work you do? Is it art? Is it intended to seduce? Probably a bit of both, I’m guessing (and I’d add you do both quite well). And what about the nation? How do you view Alley’s work?

Anyway Alley and fans, maybe this is a bit too touchy/feely for your liking, but I figure if Alley has a “Heart” section and is willing to be vulnerable with her fans on the site, then why not be vulnerable in return – friendship is a two-way street after all. I’d love to talk to you again on Keen, Alley, but for now I think it’s gonna have to wait. Grad school isn’t cheap:( In the meantime, know that you are loved, appreciated, and truly a masterpiece of God’s handiwork.

I saw your post and I thought I would throw in my $ .02 worth on how I view Alley's work. I think you are absolutly right when you say that her work is a little bit of both, artistic and as a seductress.

I see Alley's sets as absolute art and creative possibilities. I learn alot looking and studying her sets. She always seems to do alot of prep work and thinks things through in most her sets. She is a true artist in what she wants to convey through the lens. With the outfits, makeup, hair, lighting, location, poses, setting up the sets, setting and reviewing the lighting over and over till it is just the way she wants it. Everything is well thought out and it really works most of the time. Many, many hours days and weeks go into the artistic side of shooting sets. If she shoots 12 to 15 sets. She has probibly been thinking and working on the artistic side of those sets 3 or 4 months. So all togeather I would guess about 300 to 400 hrs in total to get everything from idea's to location, to outfits, to shopping, to lighting and effects..and on and on to artistic content. All those 12 to 15 sets of 3 months or or 300 to 400 hrs of thought and very hard work. She probibly does actual shooting the sets from about 2 to 3 hrs of actual shooting time for those 12 to 15 sets. Shooting it is the very, very easy part.

Alley comes across as a seductress in most of her sets. But I really don't think that she really has to put hardly any work into that at all. Alley is just one of those very few and rare woman that the camera just absolutly loves. Alley just jumps out at you on the finished print. The reason why I don't think that she has to put any work or real thought into coming across as a seductress is because it is all natural. She is so beautiful and sexy. She is so damn photogentic. She has a way about her and her personality and a softness and a kindness about her. All those things combined bring out the beauty and seductivness from her. She just gets into the mood of the shoot. With the outfit, lighting , location etc...Then she just lets it happen. I think she works hard in her sets, don't get me wrong. I think comming up with different styles and poses always is an ongoing commintment. But for the pure beauty, sexiness and seductive sets. I think it comes more natural to her. She has it all, and she is the ultimate pro in her profession.

So, I think all the very hard work and thought go into the artistic side of the sets. Long hours and and alot of lighting ajustments to get the right feel. But once all that hard work and planning are complete and she knows she has everything right and what she is looking for. What see wants to convey and get across as an artistic form. The rest is easy. All that time and planning and set-up. By the time everything is perfect the way she wants it. It would only take about 5 to 10 minutes to shoot the set. Because Alley and all her beauty will take care of the rest of it. Like I said, the camera loves Alley. Shooting her and getting a seductive look should be a piece of cake and no work at all. Put her in the set shoot it in 5 or 10 min. or less. You get a great set.

So anyway that is just my thoughts on your question for us out here in AB NATION. I might be totally off base in my assumption. Only Alley can really answer your questions you asked her. But mezz that's how I see her in my veiw. Bottom line.....Very hard working for artistic value in sets. And just being her natural self and letting her beauty, charm, self-confidence, vulnerbility, and self-essteam all combined to show her seductivness.

Mezz.....I see myself as both. I handle what I do in front of the camera...as creatively as possible. I always try to move and do something different every time. I always stop and I REALLY think about what I can do....to make this shot look different/my own....memorable. For example....there's a shoot I did for Playboy a while back with a pool table. I've always wanted to shoot with a pool table and do the whole lay across it thing. So as I got in front of it....I looked at it for a bit and thought how can I place my body on this pool table and make it be WOW!!! So I decided to arch my body up against it.....as I laid my back on it....and I kind of became part of the pool table. I really turned out AMAZING!!!! Very memorable!! I think most models would have just walked up and put their hands on their hips or whatever and not really think about their posing.....just kind of go with the flow. I like to try to be different from the norm.

hey mezz -
well, i've said it before... when i first discovered Alley, of course i was purely physically attracted to her beauty and body just like the rest of us... the first time i saw her it was purely coincidental - man, what a great day that was!! i immediately had to know more about her - i jumped on the computer and started searching... i knew something was different about this woman - i couldn't quite put my finger on it at first, but i knew she was special. i found image after image of her (mostly playboy shots) and i just started clicking and saving! then i found her official website, and joined as fast as i could get my credit card out of my wallet!! and the rest, is history! as i started going through her images for her website, and for mac and bumble, i realized what was so special about her - she is sooooo much more than just another nude model. she is in a class of her own. like you guys stated, she is just so artistic about her shots - you can tell that she really tries hard to put forth the best that she can, every time! she cares about how the images turn out, and it shows! over the years, she has learned and developed, and only gotten better at what she does - the works of art she and the camera create, are exquisite! i think that the sensuality and sexuality are bi-products - i mean, look at her, she just oozes with it!! i am an artist at heart as well, which is another reason why i love her shoots so much - i appreciate the artistic qualities in each of them... so for me (and apparantly a few of us) her shoots are more than just a few images to oogle over (to say the least) they are images to appreciate for their creativeness and beauty!!

p.s. Alley, i know exactly what shoot you are talking about! what a great photoshoot that was!! those few images are still today, some of my favorite you have done for playboy! especially the one where you are standing next to the table arched w/ your back on top of it
like you said - memorable!! but then, just about every shot you do is!! thank you for all your hard work - like i said before, you are in a class of your own!
