Went to E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) today like I usually do every year to check out what's going on the gaming industry.
I get more and more disappointed every year- as the line up of gamings that are coming out just basically sucks.
The show itself is just a huge mix of loud noises with lots of glittering and dazzling lights. Filled with giant screens all over playing "video" clips, usually trailers or intros of the game that doesn't really show anything about what the actual game is really like. Got to demo all the games, and I wasn't really impressed. I think too much money is invested into the fancy graphics and not into the actual playability of the game. Most of them are great show and tell.
The ones I thought were interesting surprisingly are the small hand held stuff.
Big things I saw were Car Racing Games, Shooters (the usual), Massive Multiplayer games (which probably will be the most fun or interesting of the bunch), and Fight Games (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, etc). I didn't see much in the ways of strategy games. Then again there was so much going on that I might have missed something. Was very overwhelming.
The quality of the booth babes have also gone down. At least the ones I saw. There were some that shouldn't be out there (a little on the older side, with too much make up). One was wearing a xena like outfit with too much cushion on her. If you know what I mean. There were a few hotties there though. Then again- maybe I'm just jaded working with too many hot industry models.
I ran into Jesse there- definitely at the top of hottie list of course. (Hey Jesse! nice to see you at the show. How are your feet holding up?)
The Nintendo Micro was definitely the coolest. The demo units were attached to the booth babes which I thought was funny and interesting. At least one of them was hot. hehe... The thought that came to mind was, I just got to kidnap this girl and I get to take her home AND the Micro! (Wouldn't that be something)
I also liked the Nokia game demos. Interesting to see gameboy like games on cell phones.
Parking was hell. Walking was hell. My feet and legs are just killing me right now!! Way too much walking and standing around. Fortunately, the Will Call line was short and down the street from my Studio.
Not sure if I will be returning the rest of the week.
