I don't know if I may have mentioned it before, but lately, the last few months, and maybe even longer before that, I have not looked forward to going to work. Its not because I hate my job. Being a busser benefitted me in more ways than I imagined compared to how I was prior to accepting the job. I can lift much heavier objects, I've lost over 15 pounds, and I even have a source of income.

Its been a year now since I've accepted the job, but over time, it grew more and more unbearable in certain aspects.

For one, the guys who are in the prior shift always leave a couple of hours early, and they leave alot of work for me to catch up on before I can even get started with the regular aspects of the shift. This includes nearly all the trashcans completely full. Uncleaned pots and pans, which is a real pain to clean when the contents harden. And finally, have to straighten out the work area just so it looks professional. When I go into the dry storage or the room with the pots and pans, it does'nt even look like anyone ever tried to make the room presentable. They just simply toss the stuff in there. Hell, the break room is'nt even nice and its the waiters/waitresses responsibility to clean them, but they fill up alot of space in the bus buckets.

The main manager is a real jerk. Although I rarely have any kind of real contact with him, he pretty much enables the other shift to leave early in the first place place. Because his shift always gets more customers, his shift often gets more people to assist one another. My shift, and the evening shift (Though its more warranted after midnight), I have to work alone. This means all the extra work while trying to balance out everything else, so I have to see when the lulls between rushes occur so I can do it all before it picks up again. I have'nt even gotten so much as a single worker evaluation report, and not even a mentioning of a raise, and I've been working there for nearly a year now. They all said I would get one since I've been asking for it since February. Guess what? Still not here.

3 weeks marks my 1 year anniversary, but somehow, I don't know if I should feel proud anymore. To be honest, if it was'nt for another manager urging me on and helping me, I would have quit a long time ago because I have pulled through alot of crap. Of all the time I have only been late 3 times and only 1 accidental absence (Family emergency). The only time I ever really ask off was when final exams were approaching.

I dunno guys. It just feels like I'm being used. I mean, I would'nt mind so much if I just had a little bit of help, but it feels like even that is asking for too much. There is'nt any job for me to fall back on, so I feel so trapped right now, and everyone knows it.

We all end up with a job like this at some point or other. I've been in one before, and my wife is currently in a bit of a similar one herself.

I used to work at a convenience store and generally we only ever had 1 clerk on duty at a time, 3 in a day operating 8 hour shifts. I was usually 2nd or 3rd shift, 3rd shift being overnight. Sometimes I'd be scheduled for 3rd shift one day and 2nd the next, meaning I'd only have 8 hours between when I got off of work and when I'd be back at it again. Usually, this wouldn't be a problem, except one of the people almost never could show up less than a half hour late, and generally was more than an hour. Then of course I'm an @sshole for being mad that they show up late. When the person was eventually "fired", they actually came in a little while after and had actually quit to pursue a different job. Which was entirely believable to me because they had been hired almost at the exact same time they were "fired". Best part was getting robbed and then have the manager cuss me out for having too much money in the drawer and then tell me to finish my shift.

My wife is currently employed at a pool store, that I'm told used to be fun when it was run under a different owner. Then one employee got mad for some reason or other and ratted the owner out to corporate about the nice things she had been doing against policy and then it changed hands. If you're in the family of owners, you can expect a hefty paycheck without any effort or even if you only work 2 days a week. In fact, it tends to be more than the full-time employees make that have to bust butt because the main owner rarely schedules enough people so he can cut down on expenses and pocket more profits. They can rarely hire a new person in that lasts long because of 2 things: 1) Most tend to just want to test water without really learning anything about how to do it and interpret results and 2) It's poorly managed so they'll get frustrated quickly.

So, there's really no escaping the bad jobs out there. Just keep your chin up till the next opportunity comes along, I'm sure you'll find something better.

Well, the federal minimum wage here is 7.25, and my current pay stands at 7.50. And yes, this is in a restraurant I have gone with my family too for years. Often times though I get so tired by the end of a shift, I am more interested in getting home than eating, and too busy to take an actual break to eat.

Right now is bad anyways because with the heavy rains we recently had last month, we have had ants crawling all along the walls. Little bastards are actually coming in from the ceiling of all places. Not only that, but when it does happen to rain, our ceiling leaks in various areas, so it makes me wonder about how bad the mold might be and other infestations that are going on in the walls. They told us that would would have had a remodel done to our store, till one of the others had a fire so we got put on the backburner.

lol, it all sounds so fucked up does'nt it?
