I thought I would start this topic primarily to help Furrynerd, but if others wish to use it or contribute that they are most welcome to do so.

FIRST: Story. This may seem obvious but it is amazing how often the game shoots off in different directions and tangents if the creator/game master does not have a coherent story in mind before he/she promotes the game in the forum( I plead guilty to this with Babylon fur, trying to combine too many SF themes.)
A good story must have a Beginning, a middle and an end. It will not really work if you are making it up as you go along. The players have that freedom the Games master does not he/she has to steer the players with their narration along the story line. This is done by setting goals for the players to achieve. I.E. The players have to reach a certain location. This can be particular dwelling, a village/town or city. Or find a certain person and gain information from that person to move on to the next stage of the game. TO BE CONTINUED.

Not that a open plot game isn't a bad thing. I did nice roleplay in an totally unexpected way just because I let the my player improvise a little. I tend to ask them to write a background of their character first, it give you ammunition. I set different possible story and lead, often linked to their background and the motivation of their character then I let them pick what they want to do. Letting them sometime argue together about how they should set. Just be sure they have a good reason to stick together.

Il ne faudrait pas qu'ils décident de se séparer.

S.P.P.
