I think Irwin suggested it. Well thanks, because it's a very good movie. Smile

Dunno if you have seen it Martina, but if you have the chance check it out! Wink

Actually Satch, I think it was Bennie who suggested it, but I have seen it too and agree that it is an outstanding film. It won 4 Academy awards in 2002 including Best Picture.

Wow can't keep up with you. Shocked
I've seen Love me if you Dare and thought it was quite good. It was quite a while ago I saw it, but I guess it's out earlier in Europe since it is a French movie.
Oh uhmm you mean Stratosphere Girl right? little typo Wink
Is it worth checking out?

I saw a funny commedy called Envy. Just funny and entertaining, but nothing very special I would say 3 stars. Razz

LOL Yep i did spell it wrong. The weird thing on the DVD Box it says she is Dutch, then on the movie she says she from Belgium but lives in Germany. Kinda confusing. It also has a weird ending, and maybe more of a chick movie. I think you should check it out though.

Yes i have seen Envy, thats funny Laughing

Vapoorize! Laughing

Hmmm Stratosphere is by a German filmmaker called M.X. Oberg and made in association with several european filmhouses. The girl playing the leading part of the comic drawer Angela is called Chloé Winkel. She seems to have modelled for CK. She's not really known here though. Can't really find if she is Dutch or from Belgium. I think I'll check it out.

Oh did you notice this subject has over 12000 reads Shocked Shocked Shocked

Well on my DVD it says she is playing a Dutch girl, but in the movie she said she was from Belgium and lives in Germany. So its kinda confusing, but i thought her accent did not sound very dutch, so i doubt she is really from there

The Stratosphere Girl [DVD] (2004)
Desperate for a change of pace, Dutch comics illustrator Angela moves to Tokyo and takes a job as a hostess in a bar for Asian men who like Western women. While dealing with culture shock and fighting off the advances of lecherous customers, she becomes obsessed with the case of a missing co-worker. But when Angela begins incorporating what she knows about the disappearance into her art, the line between fiction and reality blurs. Chloe Winkel, Jon Yang, Rebecca R. Palmer star. 85 min. Filmed in English. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; photo gallery; theatrical trailers.

Yes this topic has had alot of views Cool

I've seen Cold Mountain, but quite a while ago. What I can remember is that it was about the civil war.
Dunno I'm not really into war movies, since reality is even more cruel then what they will ever be able to show.

I read it was by the same director as 'the English Patient'.
Have you ever seen that? Curious

Satch I think you just started another long topic Wink

OK here's mine:

1. Blade Runner
One of the first movies I ever saw and still my all time fave. Everything about this film is absolutely first class.

2. Star Wars (the first one)
Still the best. I really wish they hadn't made the last 3.

3. Apocalypse Now
So much more than a war movie. Absolutely brilliant on so many levels.

4. The Wicker Man
A hypnotic British cult classic.

5. Aguirre, Wrath of God
Some of the most awesome cinematography I have ever seen.

All of these are really old but IMHO a good film has to stand the test of time

New subject...!? hmmm ok well if Martina is so kind to post her top 5 it will still be Martina on movies! Wink

Aguirre, Wrath of God is a movie I've never seen.
I had never heard of the movie 'The Wicker Man' before I heard the Iron Maiden song about it.
Your list sure holds some classics. I'm still working on my list. Will post it soon. Just can't make up my mind. So many great movies around Confused
Maybe a top 100? Rolling Eyes

I never knew about that song Confused I found the lyrics to it on Google:

Hand of fate is moving and the finger points to you
He knocks you to your feet and so what are you gonna do
Your tongue has frozen now you’ve got something to say
The piper at the gates of dawn is calling you his way

You watch the world exploding every single night
Dancing in the sun a newborn in the light
Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death
Hello to eternity and live for every breath

Your time will come, your time will come
Your time will come, your time will come

The ferryman wants his money you ain’t going to give it back
He can push his own boat as you set up off the track
Nothing you can contemplate will ever be the same
Every second is a new spark, sets the universe aflame

You watch the world exploding every single night
Dancing in the sun a newborn in the light
Brothers and their fathers joining hands and make a chain
The shadow of the wicker man is rising up again

Your time will come, your time will come
Your time will come, your time will come

Your time will come, your time will come
Your time will come, your time will come
Your time will come, your time will come
Your time will come, your time will come

Very Spinal Tap Laughing

- Monty Python and the Holy Grail Laughing
- Falling Down...doesn't everybody feel like this some days?

Ok if you ask me tomorrow my list is probably different. Rolling Eyes
