Not in the slightest.

Some of the drill sgts aren't as threatening or skilled as the rest, but there's always bound to be at least one poster child Drill Sgt. I recall the Drill sgt who was nominated the top sgt for the year. Bear of a man, standing 6'5" and as wide as an NFL lineman.

There's seems to be one drill that works out so often that they look like they could rip someone in half if given the chance. I've known NCO's that worked out so often that when the original BDU's were issued and we were allowed to roll our sleeves during the summer, they needed alterations in order to wear then cause there arms were so huge.

All this military talk made me remember one of my dad's favorite military jokes. Hope you enjoy it.

Each of the four branches of the armed forces, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force, are told to secure a building. The Army goes in, sets up barbed wire, guard towers, search lights, machine gun nests, digs trenches and bunkers, places land mines and dog patrols. Building is secure. The Marines go in, shoot everything that moves, shoot everything that doesn't move, set the building on fire then blow it up. Building is secure. The Navy goes in and turns off the lights and the coffee pots. Building is secure. The Air Force goes and leases the building for six months. Building is secure.

hehe.. I'm a little behind, but I had to comment on this one. Smile

During my own boot camp, the instructors decided to give us a demonstration about field rations. Part of this was punishment for a couple of the recruits sleeping in while we were at the range (sadly, we tried to get them roused and joining us before they were noticed, but failed).

So anyway, we only did Army and Air Force, at least that I recall.

For Air Force, they selected two of the recruits widely suspected to be having a romance anyway, sat them down at a table with an improvised tablecloth and candle on it. The PO came over with a towel draped over his arm, took their orders, and brought their field rations heated and served on a plate. This, they said, was Air Force field rations.

For Army, we had the poor guy who slept in laying in the dust. Since he's in the field under battle conditions, he can't afford a fire, so he eats his chicken right from the pouch, dumps the instant coffee in his mouth and washes it down with a bit of Coke.

We all got a good laugh out of the whole thing, but I got to tell you, after 8 weeks without any cola or other caffeine, as despite all else he was enduring, I was awfully jealous of that Army guy right at that moment. Wink

(for the record, I was Air Force).
