One thing bugs me though!I keep wondering is it a good buisnes making and selling quest made for P&P D&D?Because i have heard and read articals, stating that you can buy ready-made quest.Which kinda kills all the fun of being a DM _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

That verry much depends on the players but its true Its better to courdinate your own shit than someones' you make it you rull it.if you gonna buy a quest why geting a DM's book.... it sounds a little strange to buy a book that explayns Playing and creating a quest from A to Z and you go and BUY one _________________ One Blood... |

Well there are some people,in lack here that dont have the creativity needed to make there own adventure.Thats why they concider purchasing it.Mainly because they want to feel what its like to be a DM and D&D is a game in which you cant miss out on anything...its sort of like a rule. For better or worse this game is a curse! _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

I can cobble together 2 kinds of campaigns. Statis ones, where my players are free to roam, but be warned some areas are not ment to be traveled at early levels (By random encounter, they nearly bit the dust when what they thought was an island when they were sailing turned out to be a sleeping Dragon Turtle Damn their steam breath!)
Otherwise, I come up with a campaign, leaving pieces intentionally blank for on the fly creation. Improv campaigns can be fun, but only if you can come up with stuff quick to fill in the blanks. As for my players, I'm pretty lenient on what they can be. I've had a campaign where one player was the ghost of a famous bard, and one of his companions was an albino minotaur named Goat Hoof, who was illiterate, but insisted on writing out plans for the others, which was nothing more than symbols and giberish. _________________ The suspense is killing me. I admire your creativity I'd probably never thought about an island turning out to be a Dragon Turtle. As for freedom of choice i always give the fans of my work everything they want.A rich description of whats hapening, where they are and whats about to hapen.Thats the real catch-making them belive they are in a real world!Improvising can be a snap,if you are charismatic and quick-wited enough _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

Honestly, I love all kind of games and/or campaigns, both of my own conception or pre-made (one can always add extra bits, you know)...
UNLESS, of course, I have to face players that should never be allowed to handle dice.
For example, a friend of mine, a swell guy in all other ways, ALWAYS plays characters whose only purpose in life is to wreck a campaign, and what's worse is that he doesn't even realize it! Every time we try to stop him he complains "I'm only playing my character the way she (he usually plays girls) was conceived!" that is, as a complete asshole that uses lethal force mainly against the other players...
Suffice to say, these days I'm VERY selective about who I let play what. |

The best way whit those kind of players is simple:
...and youre walking in the wood...but wait we ware in a dungeon...IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU WARE!So...youre walking in the wood and suddenly...a DRAGON comes out and byte youre head...aaaand youre dead....then the dragon eat your hero and fly away.... so what the others are will do(after a moment of silence) _________________ One Blood... |

Oh I forgot to say the best part of the game is Sitting in the wood all by yourself watching A BIG Half-Ork whit Full plate and a Lizardfolk fall from the sky smashing on the ground and thats not all... you see that the Lizardfolk smash his head on a rock or some kind'a hard thing and he takes something like 1 damage and the Half-ork landing on him takes like 10 _________________ One Blood... |

Soo anyway back to the topic.I know exactly what you mean Martin. It can be a greart strain on the nerves to play with such people and in most of the cases it always turns out for the best.He jumps on othe chars, they team up and kick his ass its all in the beauty that is D&D Heck, even i,not so long ago,had a player who got his character drunk and went door-to-door asking for the mayor of the town... _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

Oh, it'd be SO much easier if he didn't have a buddy who is so amused by his antics that he basically supports him through the game... last time the team jumped his character with katanas drawn (it was a japanese campaign) and buddy-buddy sent a bunch of "Hold Person" spells flying our way.
Luckily, he let the "roleplaying the rebel without a clue" bit take his hand and made her sleep on the bridge of the ship our team was on, drunk out of her mind, in the middle of January. Can you say pneumonia, boys and girls? I knew you could... |

LoL, that's pretty funny. It's always nice when an idiotic player kills his own character through his own negligence. I've only had a couple run-ins with "problem players" in my short gaming career, though probably not the same as your own... our "problem players" were actually two friends who traded-places as player and game-master in eachother's games, so they were basically delighting in trying to add chaos to eachother's games.
One game in particular, one friend set up a BESM game set in the world of Full Metal Alchemist. The other friend was just doing his best to start shit with random NPC characters and ended up getting his character chained to the roof of his own car and spray-painted. There were a few moments when I was really tempted to do some damage to his character... my character was an Alchemist called the "Rust Alchemist", and his character had big, metal "automail" arms... I could just imagine the possibilities, but I decided against it.
In the end, he decided to push an artifact that amplified Alchemic power, much like the Philosopher's Stone, into an object that disintegrated matter, and ended up creating a mini-blackhole that was about to swallow up the planet and destroy the entire multiverse...
I really wish I had taken those big mechanical arms away from him when I had the chance. _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! A Bon Bon Tale)

Actually, YC, my first character in AD&D was a girl, a tomboyish human thief... and let me tell you, there IS something worse than people who play girl characters:
People who think that since you play a girl character but you're a guy you won't mind if they paw her over.
Heh... once my old team was playing an escapade in the drow tunnels, and as usual Tiana (the thief) was leading, when the player who played the dwarf said "I'm gonna reach forwards and grope Tiana's snatch." I told the DM that Tiana was kicking backwards (double specialization in martial arts), and he told me to roll...
NATURAL 20!
His dwarf went around the rest of the campaign without the front teeth.
Trust me, Tiana may have been a girl character, but she sure wasn't a freakin' pushover! |

I almost played a female character... kinda.
In that Full Metal Alchemist BESM game I mentioned before, my character was an alchemist who had tried human-transmutation (like the Alric brothers in FMA), and had failed. My GM had set up his own table of the effects of the failed human transmutation experience, and I ended up with the soul of the person I was trying to transmute inside my character's body. I had already told the GM part of the back-story that I had envisioned of my character, that he was trying to resurrect a dead twin sister, and he immediately decided that not only was my character basically both a man and a woman in the same body, but that he was now transgendered... he had stopped developing as a man (since he tried the experiment while he was still a growing teenager) and basically started developing breasts and the whole nine yards.
Technically, he was still male "downstairs", but he lived his life as a woman, with his own sister sometimes taking over his body, so he had like multiple personalities.
My roommate likes to play female characters in most of his campaigns, and sometimes I really wonder why... _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! A Bon Bon Tale)

Don't get me wrong,i have nothing against guys who play heroin chars.I understand you want to create your dreamgirl or to just toy with the others. And i can only imagine whats a dwarf without front teeth,as if their low charisma ist enough That reminds me of another funny sesion with friends that were on my adventure. After a while they were supossed to go against a sort of a mini-boss.A human fighter and a orc barbarian fighting against a wereboar. He was sort of beating them down and the orc said:
-Lets get outa here man,we're at 10 HP for Christ's sake!
-No!-said the human-We are going to stand and fight!-right after he said that the wereboar rushed the orc and the orc ended up loosing his 10HP,bullrushed on the ground, unconcious! After that litle tackle the one playing the human was like:
-Im outta here!-and he left his buddy high and dry in the arms, sorry hoofs,of the wereboar I guess i kinda overdid him...
And Johnny i can say that was sort of...disturbing...but it got me interessted.I had never heard of FMA I think the only closest game to FMA that i played, from how you discribed it,is Arcanum. And about your roommate...who knows...maybe you dont know everything about him _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

The game itself is called BESM, or "Big Eyes, Small Mouth", a roleplaying game specifically geared towards anime fans and creating anime-inspired adventures. Many of the supplemental books allow for numerous genres, so the GM usually has a final say as to what sort of powers and abilities a character would have access to, such as the type of technology or the inclusion of magic, etc.
The specific gaming sessions I was referring to were based off of an anime series called Fullmetal Alchemist, which is sometimes called FMA for short by some fans. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is similar in culture and technology to WWI Europe, with a few exceptions... Alchemy, a somewhat magical force of transmutation of matter, is a working science in this world, unlike our own world where it had long been religated to myth since medieval times. Also, the technology evolved differently, with a kind of cybernetics called "Automail" being developed, allowing for replacement of limbs, but other inventions like airplanes have not been invented at all.
For more information on the Big Eyes, Small Mouth game or the Fullmetal Alchemist anime, here's a couple of links...

Hmmm.... playin' girl characters... now thats my topic To tell you the truth in 90% of the games in which you get to "desighn" your own heroe I play a girl.Damn I just can't stand a fuckin' beautiful chik kickin' ass and cuttin' heads whit her lightsaber(in the case of Jedy Academy )while shakin' Her Own ass thats some view . But about D&D and P&P now thats different first you don't get to look at your girl, second you have to make choises like one and third if you play a girl character the DM will be diein' to put you in silly situations like flirtin' or something
you will thik that you are doing super cool or something while really youre getting you and your whole crew in jail
Come on now a girl knows her role and no one can imitate her _________________ One Blood... |

I find myself playing females characters, usually because most of my buddies don't want to be female. I've got 2 of them broken of that "I'm not gonna be a girl. I'm no girl!" attitude.
One of the greatest D&D moments of my "Evil" campaign, my friend Andrew was trying to question the local peasants to get information, but they knew nothing. He got aggrivated and charged into the guard shack and demanded "Where is so and so?!" only to have about 20 guards men draw swords and knock bows to his rude entrance, and the captain of the guard who he was looking for, with his own sword tip to Andrew's throat said "I wouldn't recommend barging in like that." (Since he actually got up and charged at me, for I was sitting at the other side of the pool table we play on, I held a pool cue to his neck to simulate.) He pointed in the air and simply said "noted" and sat back down. _________________ The suspense is killing me. I hope it will last. |

Nice way to ask for info.Barge in the guards shack, start weaving yo sword n' sh** Although,i got to tell you i never realy did play a "good only" or "evil only" campaign.I think it kinda spoils the freedom that the game originaly has But nonetheless its great fun and humor!Oh,thanks for the info Johnny,i'll look into it as soon as i can _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

No prob, YoungCesar, always glad to help...
In my current campaign, our GM doesn't want us to play evil characters, as he feels that too often people play evil characters too recklessly and often try to go out of their way to wreck things for the other players. And as far as our current campaign, I'm not sure an evil character would necessarily fit into the plot... However, we do have a couple of Neutral-aligned characters who keep the Good-aligned characters on their toes as it is.
In particular, we have a gnome thief in our party that has a tendency to be overly greedy (duh!) and be a big pain in the butt to everyone else whenever he can. He also once killed a PC (a dwarven fighter) in his sleep, though to his defense the character was severly crippled after some horrible mishaps in a previous battle, so he claimed (out of character) that it was a mercy-killing, though really he just wanted the XP. (In-character, he told the party that the dwarf had died in his sleep, and none of our characters had any reason to think he was lying at the time). We sometimes give the character grief for his less than honorable deeds, but to his credit the guy who plays him isn't really out to cause trouble, he just plays the character really well as a self-involved, greedy thief. _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! Hah!For better or worse i think its best for people to play their character properly. But if we are going to share funny stories about D&D let me tell you another one.
It was our first time playing it,so we were kinda clueless.I think it was me,sLaV and some other dude Well we were suposed to kill a zombie at one point of the game, but it didnt go so well,by that i mean we sat up the hole night just laughing. The funny thing is that when we hit the zombie the DM told us"it drops on the floor,motionless..."so what can we expect,it was a zombie. And we kept shooting, and stabing, hacking and slashing but we couldnt hit that damn zombie even if it was on the floor. Then sLaV said to the DM"im going to shoot him with my crossbow"but, wouldn't you know it,he trew a natural 1.So the bolt flew right by the zombie and hit me in the leg, when i was trying to gouge his eyes out,he hit me whit a bolt Agian, thanks a LOT sLaV _________________ F.E.A.R.™-Fatal.Effluent.Assault.Rhymes™

Maybe you should try mages in the future? There's a cure for the low roll blues, and it's called Magic Missile (never miss, that li'l sweetie)! That, or ranged touch and area effect spells. After all, easy hits and no hit roll needed spells make up a low roller's day
Oh, and Reserve Feats. Gotta love them... |

Promise you won't laugh? The Dragon Shaman, from the Player's Handbook II. That and the Warlock.
The DS has firebreath, magic healing, magic aura powers and more, while the Warlock has the Eldritch Blasts and Invocations... Both are aces at the dealing and avoiding damage game.
Also, the three Incarnum classes... Powers up the wazoo, some of which help to eke a living ("Sailor's bracers", for example, give a PC everything he needs to be a pro sailor, without actually taking the skills... and with none being the wiser )
My last favorite, but only for utilitarian reasons, is the Artificer from Eberron: I mean, a fella that can build magic items using energy taken from less powerful ones instead of XP? By all means, sign me in! |
