Two statues, one male and one female stood gazing at each other accross a path in a garden. They had stood there gazing at each other for several centuries. One day a passing angel (who looked very much like Martina but not quite as beautiful) passed by and saw the two statues. She was so touched that she flew down and granted the statues 30 minutes of life. The male statue immediately took the female statue by the hand and led her off into the bushes. There was laughter and giggling behind the bushes and the statues emerged some 10 minutes later.

"That was the most fun we have ever had" said the statues.

"You still have 20 minutes left" said the angel.

The female statue turned to the male statue with a wicked look and said "OK this time you hold down the pigeon and I'll shit on it's head".

the pressure is on him to get us to the world cup for the 1st time.if he does he will be a huge name here.

ps isn't eindhoven martinas team too?

yes...guust hiddink is getting a lot of credit for it too.

watching the game on tv, it looked as though his tactics and reading of the game was spot on. apparently when he took over he really stamped his authority on the players. they dominated the game last night although there were not a whole lot of shots on goal.

ummm...if we play holland and the orange army... i think it might be asking a little bit too much to win Laughing

oh well at least we are there for only the 2nd time in history. 1974 is the only other time we made it.

Corrections:

Trainers name is Guus, not Guust.
And we call the Dutch fans not the army, but the legion.

You have to keep your facts straight to impress the girls man! Very Happy

Coincidence: the 1974 World Cup was also held in Germany! Australia was in the first round with Chili, and East and West Germany. Unfortunately Australia didn't do well though....

Back than, the second round was also in a poul / group games, instead of the 1/8th finals etc with knock-out system. Holland won all 3 matches with no goals against, in a group with Brasil, Argentina and East Germany (wow!) Holland lost the final with 2-1 against West Germany. Another weird little fact: top scorer that World Cup was from Poland! Second was Johan Neeskens, Dutch. Was it this World Cup that Johan Neeskens shot a penalty straight through the middle, letting the chalk of the penalty spot fly all over the place?

Well, I hope the outcome if the 2006 World Cup aint the same as 1974...

Cheers

oh no

we scored a very bad group...BRAZIL..croatia and japan.
that is a pretty tough group.

the good news is all our games are around Stuttgart...so we can set up base there and don't have to travel.

How did all your countries fare?

Hi Rastus
If we meet in will be in the final Cool
..as we are in different halves of the scheme

The Dutch, Group C
.Argentina
.Côte d'Ivoire
.Serbia and Montenegro
.Netherlands

This group is very, very difficult, not only the Dutch think so:
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/poll_results.html?pollID=4153
partly beacause the Ducth were not seeded by the best 8.

The English were seeded, their group looks better:

Group B
.England
.Paraguay
.Trinidad and Tobago
.Sweden

Good group Marcus ?

Finally the USA, Group E
.Italy
.Ghana
.United States
.Czech Republic

Very heavy too

Martina can bet on two, wait even three horses ...

Success all Smile

USA got Group E with Italy, Czech Republic and Ghana. VERY tough for us to advance from this group. Seemed like Mexico and Spain got relatively easy groups somehow.

They're calling Group C the Group of Death. Don't know much about Ivory Coast or Serbia & Montenegro. Serbs won their qualifying group over Spain and Ivory Coast is supposedly the strongest African team this year. So Argentina and the Netherlands better be careful.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I have a problem with the FIFA seeding process. I disagree with some of the criteria they use, and I think it penalizes some teams. Czech Republic is ranked second, yet they don't get a seed? USA has beaten Mexico several times recently, including the 2002 Cup quarterfinals, and we won our qualifying group over the Mexicans. Yet they get the seed, and a near walkover into the second round. It makes you wonder...

Hey, I hope Our Angel is preparing to move and all is going well!

Yes the seeding they used was based on the results on last three wc's and the ranking list. This does favor the "big" countries

Ranking list now, top 10, bold ones are seeded
1 Brazil
2 Czech Republic
3 Netherlands
4 Argentina
5 Mexico
5 Spain
5 France
8 USA
9 England
10 Portugal

I think the FIFA has not much trust ihn its own list, which may be correct as Germany is not even in the top-10, but they always do well. The second place of Czech is strange too as the Dutch were in the same qualifying poule and we ended first (Chech second).
In the end only the WC matches do really count I think.

Still wonder which team has Martina's support (maybe all thhree)
