((Dr. Fuchs is a vixen, and a normal-colored one at that.
And we did have the one bengali tiger with normal coloring too.
And then there's Martin... our only Platypus.
And, I guess I share the wolvering thingy with Brandon, the flower grower.)) |

Let's not forget the reptiles and amphibians. Henk is the only reptile thus far with an avatar. Salamanders, frogs, perhaps a turtle or two.
Actually, whatever happened to the female turtle character Vanessa got permission to use? I think her name was Tomoko or something similar. I'd also like to see Wallstreet's fursona made. Unfortunately, he pretty much disappeared when he opened his bar, or at least as far as I recall.
My fursona, when entered into the Four Aces suite should mark the third tiger and I believe the seventh "big cat". One panther, a snow leopard, two lions, and three tigers.
Species I'd consider interesting and original
-Crane
-Red Panda
-Poison Arrow Frog
-Fire Salamander
-Rhino
-Tapir
-Anteater
-Toucan
-Zebra
-Guinea Pig
-Boar
To any recent members who may have already made one of the listed fursonas, I apologize, but this forum can be difficult to keep up with while in college. |

While it is fun to play with multiple characters, those who have the ambitions of seeing themselves in the comic should note that Vanessa will only make one avatar for them. While I admit that the RP section can seem rather dead when people really want to RP, I find adding more fursonas per user is usually actually more likely to compound this problem. It provides a temporary fix, but also scares off other users from interest in RPing. |

Hmm Granted that more diversity is needed but I really do not think it would be how to put this.. fair. |reason is I honestly believe people are more comfortable playing a animal species they have a familiarity with and feel a kinship too personality wise at any rate. Smart and Shy types may feel affinity with the Fox/Vixen/Vulpinoid type same holds true for Social/friendly may feel with Wolves/Lions Canine/ Felinoids as examples
Now this I think is kinda normal as almost everyone has had a cat or dog as a pet, some maybe just fish or a hamster or other. Rare is the individual with something really exotic as a pet like a Llama for example.
Anyway my point is probably one of the reasons is people choose generally such a narrow species selection is that it is instantly recognized and accepted going something exotic say an Elephant (no offence Pachs) is new exciting but also trepidicious to a point. then it comes down to the individual to accept or reject it. In any case people are different some love staying in thier "safe zones" others boundaries have no limits. My 2 cents on this subject I don't think anyone should play a fursona they are not comfortable with but by the same reasoning it also should'nt be looked down on either or mourned over. Celebrate what we are look forward to what we can be but never be ashamed of our weaknesses we after all are human under the fur. |

Celebrate what we are look forward to what we can be but never be ashamed of our weaknesses we after all are human under the fur. | On the contrary, I don't think it has anything to do with comfort at all. I believe it is more... lack of creativity. Not to say people here are not creative.
Think about this. Look back through the decades, not just at the furry fandom, but furries in general, the whole fandom's roots. Walt Disney has been drawing furries in their movies for decades, how many exotic creatures do you see there? Very few. Remember getting your face painted as a kid? Nine times out of ten, animals that were chosen, if chosen at all, were tigers or lions.
Domestication has had a major impact on us. We have cats and dogs all around us, and because of that, they are usually the first things we think of. And from that basic root, canine or feline, sprouts the slightly more distinct roots to such things as tigers, foxes, wolves, even hyenas. It's more familiarity rather than comfort. The mind settles on something familiar and easily brought to mind rather than something less familiar that requires more focus. We are simple creatures in reality and, though we strive to know the unknown, we feel safest and most secure in territory, both literal and metaphorical, that we know best. The mind finds it easier to grasp the simplest explanation of a story over a more complex one. If you found a tree knocked over, which explanation would you believe more readily? That it was blown over? Or that it was knocked over by a low flying space ship?
The wind blowing over the tree is typically the more readily accepted story, not because it is more likely, but because it is simpler and easier for the mind to grasp.
My point is, we tend to gravitate to that which we know best, consciously or unconsciously. We choose a wolf breed over a giraffe not because we don't have the imagination to think of a giraffe, but because the wolf is closer to the top of the pile of options because it is more familiar to us than the giraffe is. It's why Superman comes to mind before Thor. It's why Pikachu comes to mind before Porygon. It's why Kermit comes to mind before Beaker. It all comes down to familiarity. _________________

I think that a lot of people's choices are based in what they percieve as attractive or decent looking, and what they may associate with the species in question.
That's why we don't see many pigs, bovines, rhinos, rats or such. Some may simply not be considered ideal for an attractive fursona. Canines, lupines and felines are pretty safe choices, because most people have seen attractive anthro characters based on these types of animals. The things people generally tend to associate with these species are generally positive, or at least not unattractive.
But look at a pig, on the other hand. How are they most often portrayed? Usually as fat and not particularly attractive characters. And the things that people tend to associate with them aren't attractive either. Many consider them to be filthy animals.
I think that can have a lot to do with why some people choose the fursonas that they do. They want a character that's considered attractive. _________________ Constance Mayflower's bio

I agree with Silvador's claim. No Psychologist could've said it better either. Maybe he should take Kyle's job as the town shrink? | What? But... I'm not qualified. _________________

So I have a theory. Lots of people have theories. But I lack the important piece of framed paper that certifies me. Without that, I'm not qualified. _________________
